Latest Labs
« on: August 01, 2013, 11:48:36 am »
After a month of treatment with stribild, I am undetectable...I think.

So in my most recent lab results (the first copy that Ive read over) there's a heading that reads HIV 1 RNA, Quant. Real Time PCR
Under this are two lines both saying HIV 1 RNA, QN PCR.  For the first line the result is 23 copies/ml.  For the second line it says 1.36 Log copies/ml.

What's with this log. Does it mean anything? I need help translating this from lab speak to vernacular.

A log is a mathematical term that is difficult to explain. Scientists find that translating viral load counts into logs is an easier way to compare them, especially since the counts can sometimes be very large numbers. For those interested, a log is the number of times ten must be multiplied with itself to equal a certain number, in this case, your viral load count. For example, a viral load count of 100,000 is "log 5" because it is equal to 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10. Logs are used to measure changes in viral load. For example, a reduction in viral load from 100,000 to 1,000 is a two log (or 99 percent) reduction.

A viral load count of 23 is great (or log 1.36 its the same count just a different way of expressing it).  Your in all practical purposes undetectable.

Thanks...I completely was trying to use log in a way it wasnt meant for.

Congrats for your new invisibility cloak

There are ways of making one's self invisible by using magic other than invisibility cloaks. An example is the Disillusionment Charm.

Cheers and welcome to the forums
