Glad we got all the logistics resolved and all that's left is the countdown. 

That gives me 80 more days to ask you all annoying questions.  I'll try to find answers first, but I am sure I won't understand some things.  My first problem is coming to terms with flying.  I've discovered it's not the flying I'm afraid of, it's the damn wardrobe issue.  It's times like these that I realize I'm not the most masculine.

I guess that's why I always preferred going by car.  I could take the 3 piece luggage (completely full), my portable shoe box, overnight bag, recreation bag (with munchies) and still have room for any extras.  Then we'd return from our 3 day weekend and I pretty much wore everything.  Now I have to figure out how to pack almost an entire week in ONE suitcase?  I'm not joking here....does everyone manage to fit everything in one case and still have an adequate wardrobe?  How many pairs of shoes and what style? 

Bill and I used to argue about me not being spontaneous.  I'm thinking he was probably right.  But, I love being spontaneous as long as I have time to plan it.

Its just a standard size zip up bag but I can stuff a lot into it.  Those overhead bins are a bit small but as you know that goes with the whole flying experience (so are the seats).  I plan to take a pair of jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and a sweatshirt or two.

Wolfter, I used to be a 2 suitcase kinda girl, then the fees started and I have learned to reduce.  I pack a suitcase with everything I think i want to take.  When finish,  start over and leave half out.  repeat as needed until you get down to one bag or a carry on.  Last summer I took a 10 day trip to hawaii with a carry on and a back pack.  you'll do fine

Seriously? It's not hard to do. Just remember, you're not going to AMG for anything other than to have a good time with friends. Why on earth would need to worry about how many pairs/styles of shoes? Bring one set of clothes/shoes for dress occasions, and all the rest can be relaxed stuff. No-one will really care about what you wear, just as long as you are there. Just relax, and remember to ENJOY YOUR TRIP, whic you won't be able to do if you stress over trivial things
I learned to pack light for long trips due to the fact that I spent a number of years touring the country by motorcycle. You have to lean to pack light when you have such limited space to put things. I will be coming

Don't forget everyone: we can have our laundry done by the hotel for a small fee! So if you can't fit a full weeks worth of clothes into a carry-on but don't want to pay to check a bag, only bring a few days and have them washed mid-week! They even have dry-cleaning for those queens with fancy tastes in clothing!

take in your carry-on (that way your meds are in your possession and don't have a chance to get "lost")
in weekly pill container, with several extra days (you never know when a tsunami or volcano will disrupt air travel)

It could be because I'm flying in from outside the States but I have always been told to carry them in the origial bottles, it could be different for you of course, but I've never had any problems.

I always carry my meds wtih me -- on the plane.  Not only could your checked luggage go to the other side of the world, ---- say, New Zealand or someplace as remote......  but you never know the conditions they will be in -- hot/cold, humidity, etc....

As for how to carry them - the TSA will say they should be in their original containers, but I usually keep my weekly pill box filled and take any additional in the bottles.  I've never had a question, and yes, I've had my ziplock bag full of meds removed and looked at by the TSA.  They never even opened the bag, never mind going into the pill box.

same thing here, and that's been flying within the US, between OH and NC since 1995, and even after the heightened security after 9/11.

I do remember being asked about my meds once sometime in 2001 I think, but I used to take 28 pills a day and it took two 4-compartment-a-day weekly pill containers to hold everything for just a week's visit home. I just explained how amazing it was that even though it took all those pills, all those pills kept me dying from AIDS and let me feel confident enough to fly home without thinking it would be the last time I was going to see my mom.

When I was flying back and forth to Liverpool every month while I was on injectable Interferon, my doctor always gave me a fresh letter every month to explain why I had needles and vials of liquid in my carry-on. (This was not long after 9/11 and they were a LOT stricter about liquids in your carry-on - a lot stricter as in you couldn't have ANY.) I never needed it, but it was reassuring to have it just in case. I carried the kits in a cool-bag with those little blue-liquid filled things you put in the freezer, so I'm guessing it was obvious that it was medical related stuff and that's probably why they never asked about it. But again, it was reassuring to have the letter on hand just in case.

LOL.  Its a great dish that I remember getting at one of my best friends home.  If Mr Mario fixed supper, it was usually that and let me tell ya... not a bit was left over.  Come to think of it he may have just called it squid with BB&R.  Calamari is indeed Italian.

I've only ordered it in Italian, Spanish or Greek restaurants, not cooked it at home. But it usually it is some variant on marinating pre-grilling (actually I think it's boiled then grilled) or drizzling afterwards, with things like olive oil, white wine and various herbs.

If the texture of squid is fine with you in calamari then I can't imagine not liking grilled octopus, or grilled squid. If the place knows what it's doing it should not be overly rubbery.

Oh, you know what else is fabulous is cold squid salad.

Exactly.  The tourons will all be down at the Crab Pot (pier 57) or Waterfront Seafood (pier 70).  Dungeness crabs are the rage in that part of the country.

Oh No, just scallop. The only place to get good Scallop in Texas is at McCromick and Schmicks in Austin., The best I've had was a little place in Maine on the Sea.

I've fished for both - scallop dredges for scallops...


...and a queenie net for queenies.

The fresher you can get either, the better. When they've been frozen, they're just not the same at all.

The best queenies I ever had we got in the scallop dredges in Isle of Gigha Sound between Gigha (pronounced - with a hard g as in good - gee-ah) and the Mull of Kintyre on the west coast of Scotland.

They were the sweetest queenies I've ever had the pleasure to eat. We didn't get enough to land (put ashore for sale), but we did have enough to make quite a feast for myself, the skipper and the cook. John, the cook, just quick-fried them in butter within minutes of them coming aboard and being cleaned. It was the best meal I ever had on a fishing boat. Second best was out-of-the-net and into-the-pan Dover or Lemon sole. Mmmmm....

I prefer either with "tongues off" as a fisherman would say, or "roe off" as a chef would say. All the photos I provided are "tongues on". As a fishermanbitch, I preferred to catch tongue on as we got more money for them because they weigh more. We got paid by weight, so it counted.

I would hope that fresh queenies and scallops would be available in Seattle, although I'm not sure. I know for sure the East coast has a scallop fishing, but I'm not sure if queenies are fished in any US coastal waters. I would never bother with frozen queenies or scallops. Once you've had fresh, nothing else will do.

I never liked fish before I became a commercial fishermanbitch, but once I had really fresh fish, I loved it. Don't like any that's been frozen or landed more than 48 hours or so previously. And yeah, "fresh" frozen is still frozen. It's not so bad when it comes to veggies or most types of meat, but when it comes to fish, there's a world of difference between just caught and frozen.

I nearly forgot - about eating octopus. For me it would be like eating kittens. Until you've held an octopus in your hand and looked into their eyes, you could never understand how I feel about them. They're amazing creatures and surprisingly intelligent. I always loved it when we got a lift with some octopus - they were always a lot of fun and very rarely damaged by being caught.

This is the only one I can find. I could have sworn I had more scanned, but... ~shrug~. I'll have to dig out my photos from wherever they're hiding in my desk and get to scanning.

The fish I'm holding is (locally, in NE Scotland) called a Rock Fish. They've got some fierce teeth, as big as wooden matchsticks but very, very sharp. You can't really see them all that well in this photo. The old fella behind me is John the Cook, who I mentioned earlier. The old bastard gave me and our skipper really bad food-poisoning a month or two after this photo was taken. It's not very nice having food poisoning when you're out in the middle of the sea - and the catch is good so the skipper refuses to go ashore. We didn't have a toilet aboard either, we used a section of the rail on the rear deck (no pun lol) where there was a blind spot as far as the rest of the boat went. While we were sick, we went through about six or seven rolls of toilet paper that we stuck on a cleat on the aft rigging. I was pretty pissed off that my skipper refused to go ashore, but at least he was suffering too.    John didn't eat the breakfast that made us sick that day, so he was ok. He had to do the bulk of the work because we were almost totally incapacitated.

TMI? I've got worse stories about my fishing days!

I'm planning to go to our neighborhood cafe soon and am going to ask for some of those types of food and enjoy their reactions....They'll all gross out yet have no problem eating squirrel, coon, rabbit and recently hit deer.  Gotta love Southeastern Ohio.

I just found it online and its down in Southern Maryland (Cobb Island).  Same area where they have a tobacco festival every year and one lucky little girl is crowned 'Queen of Nicotine'.

I wonder how many pieces of luggage and what Strauss-Kahn  had to pack for his house arrest at the swanky hotel he has to stay at ----- I would assume, that since he is "innocent til proven guilty" that he didn't have a limit to what he could bring.  For shame, if they had limited him to the number of bags and what he could bring simply based off of some early DNA test  (Tsk, Tsk)
