just tested positive last february
« on: April 04, 2012, 06:55:03 am »
Hi everyone! Im Karl , 19, from Philippines.

It's been 51 days since the day I was diangnosed. I am very thankful knowing about my status, through our medical examination for immigrant visa, but the diagnosis destroyed all my plans in life, my studies which lead to stopping on my nursing degree. Im so scared that day, all my dreams were broken. Acceptance is very hard to achieve. Im hoping that I will live long and be able to survive. Im diagnosed with a CD4 count of 206.  I NEED HELP PLEASE :(.

yea when i was dx'd a year and half ago i too thought it was over. i wouldn't even buy a new shirt i was so certain it was over. but like everyone will tell you time heals a bit. and you will go on and you will achieve all your dreams. be thankful that the treatments we have help and its not the 80's anymore. you do anything you set your sights on. your life is not over. and i am certain that we are on the doorstep of the cure,in the meantime get on meds and stop this virus in its tracks. you are the same person you were before trust me.

I'm glad that you made that far. Keep it up.So where you from my friend?

I was so worried for now coz my sister is going to US it'll take a long time that we will never see again. I'm happy because my family knew about my status, and it help a lot.

Yeah I heard about the cure for this, and I hope that this will be the hope for the light for us. I was so afraid if someone will knew about my status.I didn't still tell about my status to my partner, coz I might be rejected.

Hey younghopeful,

It is normal to feel the way you describe when one is diagnosed. However, truth is we have a near normal life expectancy. There is no reason for you to abandon your studies.

Also, with a CD4 of 206, your doctor would be suggesting commencing therapy as soon as possible.

Those drugs are all effective. You can read more about them in our Treatments for HIV & AIDS pages.

You might also want to read through the Lessons. Feel free to come back into the forums to ask any questions that may arise while you read.
