Well, uh... yeah. But other than that I don't quite "get" why you think you're going to find a difficult time locating seafood in the first place by just winging it. Hello, it's on almost every menu on the east coast.

Do you eat sushi? This is your opportunity to take it raw.

Hell to the NO  ::)  I don't like raw-fish would rather have it cooked or streamed

I found a Joe's Crab Shack | Seafood Restaurants  in Fairfax Va. about 13 miles away
but, yeah, your correct I'm sure I'll find what I'm looking for as far as any seafood  :)

Unfortunately, we're going to miss the chance to see the AIDS Memorial Quilt, which will be on display until July 25 (dammit!).

http://www.aidsquilt.org/

Jan, since you'll be there for the IAC, if you get a chance to see the quilt, you should try to do so.  But be prepared and bring a tissue / handkerchief -- it's very moving.

I already have that on my agenda Henry...thanks.

Two things Santi and I really want to do are
a) The National Zoo (they have pandas!) and
b) Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (they have a Butterfly Pavilion :-)

We're thinking about Friday and Saturday for those events, since Santi will only have two full days with us; he has to fly home Sunday afternoon.

Do we know when the Memorial Service will be?

Planning on having a bite to eat and a few drinks on Thursday, July 26th in the evening at Circa at Dupont (just across the street from the Dupont Circle Metro).

There may even be a special guest joining.

Anyone interested, let me know and I will see if I can secure reservations.

Oh, that's a crappy location they put you in -- one side looks out on about eight railroad tracks. But on the plus side there's a subway station right there too. If you're in the mood you can walk a few blocks down to the Greyhound station and make some money giving blow jobs in the men's room.

You can get to the restaurant easily as you will not even have to make a line transfer. Take the subway (Red Line) in the direction of Shady Grove, and exit at the Dupont Circle station. That's six stops. When you go up the escalators you'll be on Connecticut Avenue and you'll see the restaurant on the opposite side of that avenue.

All the Hotels near the Conference Center were all booked out, this was the nearest one that had a couple of rooms available.  I won't be spending much time around there anyway so it's not a problem.

The Greyhound station sounds like a nice wee place to visit, I'm always up for something a little different when I'm on holiday, just not sure I'll make any money though, but what the hell anything for a laugh, should I wear my Red Ribbon?

Well that sounds easy enough to get to...thanks Miss P.

Phil,

I'd be up for it on Thursday night.  Of course, my arrival time depends on when I can sneak out of the office AND how bad the traffic is into DC (although I will be going against the flow, so I'm hopeful).

Were either of you able to give detailed subway instructions within 5 seconds because you grew up in DC? No.

Maybe I'll show up unannounced and freak all of you out.

All of this is making me insanely jealous since I am not coming until early Saturday morning.  Ann, you will find it very easy to use Metro at your Capitol Hill hotel particularly to get to the Thursday night event in Dupont Circle.  It won't even be a "wee walk" as you like to say!

I will be at a wedding rehearsal dinner that evening-- trust me, not even remotely as interesting or fun as what you will all be doing.

So right now, we are looking at 10-12 people for Thursday evening at Circa at Dupont.

I am going to call tomorrow and see if they accept reservations -
They do get a crowd - and the only barrier that could pop up would be the increased crowd they may have from IAC going on.

I will provide an update as soon as I see if they can accommodate.

I read this and thought I'd share with those of you attending.  Well, those who may get there a day or two early.  The documentary "deepsouth" is being screened in D.C. on the 24th and 25th.  I know it isn't the kind of fun many may want, but if some get there early and don't have much to do....

Planning on having a bite to eat and a few drinks on Thursday, July 26th in the evening at Circa at Dupont (just across the street from the Dupont Circle Metro).

There may even be a special guest joining.

Anyone interested, let me know and I will see if I can secure reservations.

http://circaatdupont.com/

Unfortunately, Circa at Dupont does not take reservations. We can still go - but may have to sit separately, wait for a table, etc. ----- of course, they do have alcohol to enjoy while waiting for a table   ;D

I am still planning on going Thursday evening - as it is a great place and really gets a person into the vibe of DC - and is a great walking, viewing area......

Jen and I don't get to the AMG Hotel until Friday (not sure what time) but I think we can get a wee group together for Saturday to the Smithsonian Museum...what do you think?

Aroha
Jan :-*

The Museum on Saturday sounds good. Also, since Santi really only has two full days with us, we're thinking Friday might be a good day to go to the Zoo. I know there's some folks who have voiced in the White House tour thread that they're not going, and we're in that group too, so maybe a little traipse over to see our National Zoo would be a good alternative. Must admit, tho, it would've be fun to take the chance of running into an Obama in their natural habitat.

@ Basquo  then it's a date for the zoo on Friday, I cannot promise anything else as Bob wanted to go on that Lincoln Memorial Tour ( it cost $50 per person tho and it's 3 hours) on Saturday, so that is about the best we can do, unless someone comes up with something else , the rest of it we'll play by ear  ;)

Is it George Staphanopoulos? If it's George then I'll be there, otherwise I'll be at the bathhouse.

Although technically it runs from July 21 through the 25, the AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT will still be on display in many venues throughout the city.

If you are looking for a specific panel visit the AIDS QUILT TOUCH.  It's an incredible app that allows you to enter a name then shows you that individual's particular panel and where it will be on display.

I entered the name of my oldest and dearest friend and the names of some old friends and I started shaking when i saw what appeared on the screen.  I'm going to miss all of you this year but my heart and soul will certainly be with you as Gary delivers his deeply moving words.

You might recall that Robert was not our only ER "client."  Nevertheless, like you, I hope we can skip that experience from Las Vegas.  However, if need be, I do know where all the nearby hospitals are located.

@Basquo,  I'd be willing to do the Smithsonian on Saturday.

I am in the group touring the White House on Friday, so the zoo would be out for me.  At one time the zoo was free to get into, and I think it still is.

@Den  I"m told the Lincoln Memorial Tour is good, I've never done it, and should try it sometime.

It's funny how when you live this close to places you never do different stuff.

My partner and I lived there for five years and only visited places when our out of town family and friends visited.  It is amazing how much of DC I have never seen.  Have never been in the White House...wish I could have come this year but I am not arriving until Saturday morning.  There will plenty for everyone to do regardless of their individual tastes.

Everyone,

The Vietnam Memorial is never closed and it is an easy Metro trip from our hotel.  You will have no problem at all finding your way there.

And it really is a "must see" in DC including the Korean War Memorial which is nearby.  For that matter, the massive World War II memorial is also a Must See.
