Tai Chi, finally I started moving again
« on: September 04, 2006, 11:17:24 am »
 :)
Today I had my first Tai Chi lesson, it's a slow-motion-martial-arts- movement-like exercise. On another level it's about optimising energy streams in the body.
I can do it right in the park around the corner, I had seen people practising there. Third world as it may be here, things are really accessible here: I asked how to join and how much it was and they said ; just imitate what we will be doing and no,it's free, come every day 5-6 pm.
We were about 30 people, mainly older Thai-Chinese, all very curious as to who I was but once we got going I didn't feel particulary watched; benign indifference.
There were three teachers all 60+, I wondered if I cd make it through one hour, my body was heating up, but I did. After class they said I wasn't supposed to drink during the session.

It was so liberating; I was actually afraid of exercising, thought I wd waste or have a heart attack, but this suits me, everyone works at his own intensity, it doesn't drain me and I feel totally good 4 hours later.

Only mistake was my clothing; I wore red but today is the King's day of birth, Monday, and everyone wore yellow as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of his reign, so I was the sole ladybird among the bees. ::)

Oh, Joe, what a faux pas!  You'll be accused of péché de  Lèse- majesté.  Red, huh?
Have you tried swimming for relaxing?  I know Tai Chi may look very appealing, but I need something more vibrant to calm me down.  You know, every day, when I leave the swimming pool, and after having swum three kilometres, I do feel good and relaxed.  Just a thought!  Is there any Olympic size pool near you?  Give it a try...!

The word comes from the Greek words φως phos ("light"), and γραφίς graphis ("stylus", "paintbrush") or γραφή graphê, together meaning "drawing with light" or "representation by means of lines".

Hi Joe

I did Tai chi three times a week when I was living in Aussie..I really enjoyed it, such a nice gentle form of exercise..unfortunately there is nothing here in these rural parts(NZ) that does classes

I hope you keep it up and continue to enjoy them.

Hugs
