Rick Sanchez, eh?

OK. If you're gonna have an angry rant about Whitey keeping you down, probably you should lay off the whole "Jooz are only in it for teh sympathy!" angle:

I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah.

Gotta give Mr Sanchez his points though. That was one impressive 20 minute hissy fit. :)

What is it with Cuban Americans and antisemitism.

I lost my cherry to a Cuban American investment banker. He was so rich and sexy and sophisticated.  We dated a few months. But every so often he went off on antisemitic rants.  There was no rhyme or reason in the prejudice, no possible way into a conversation with an otherwise great guy.  He started on a rant at a romantic dinner at this very fine restaurant I had always always been dying to go to.  I excused myself and went to the toilet. When I came back I told him I couldn't date him any longer because his antisemiticism was so illogical and so offensive I just couldn't reconcile with it.

And then there is the hatred and resentment of the WASP.  I had a couple fancy Cuban American friends in new york, upper east side types, and they seethed with very funny cynicism about anything too ivy league preppy waspy.

I have NO doubt that there is employment discrimination hispanics experience certainly in occupations like media, arts administration, wall street, politics.  Look at the shit flung at Sonia Sotomayor by old white men. It was as if Carmen Miranda was the nominee.

Whats the switch that turns an experience of discrimination into conspiracy theory (reverse-) racism?

I've dated plenty of Cuban guys and have not experienced what meech is describing.  Talk about painting folks with a broad brush. That post was completely offensive.

As far as making fun of Ivy Leaguers, that's something everyone does that did not attend one of those elitist institutions.  It's a national pastime.

Sigh.

Srsly, Mecch, is this your contribution to this discussion? Are you aware that you're doing the same thing that you're accusing all Cuban Americans of doing?

Rick Sanchez was the main anchorperson down here on Channel 7 for years - he has a good style of reporting - although sometimes he leans towards the sensationalistic.  He always seemed to feel that the Miami market was too small for him.  I don't know if he is a racist or not - but definitely has some narcisstic qualities.  Don't know where he will end up now - maybe Fox - if not, we may see him down here in Miami again as this is usually where he comes back to when he doesn't make it at the network/cable level (ex. when he left MSNBC).

I always thought Sanchez sucked and just read twitter feeds constantly.  I can barely stomach CNN anyway.

You always thought Sanchez sucked what while he read his twitter feed? Enquiring minds are trying to figure you and your circles out.

Have you not ever seen his show? The entire concept of it was reporting the news by utilizing viewer commentary from various social media/networking -- myspace, twitter, facebook.  He displays it all with giant plasma display screens in the studio, and drones on and on about it.  When he first began the schtick I will assume most CNN viewers didn't know what any of that was, so I guess it was novel.  It grew really old really quickly -- it's just not news reporting, and I think that's what began the criticism from Jon Stewart, though I will admit to not watching Stewart's show with any regularity, but the vapid nature of US media political reporting has always been a mainstay of his show.

OK, that was stupid of me to write it like I felt all Cuban Americans are antisemitic.

It was just a personal experience I had of a certain class of Cuban Americans, in fancy NY and the Hamptons, that I was often hearing casual antisemitism.

And that antisemitism is what has put Sanchez in hot water.

But I was also saying that I have seen a fair amount of anti-hispanic discrimination in that world and what Sanchez was talking about on the radio isn't left field.  I was just wondering how one goes from experiencing discrimination to espousing reverse-racism - Jews controlling everything, etc etc.

Have you not ever seen his show?

I avoid American newsorisitpropaganda based channels like the plague. At least I try to avoid them better than I did the plague that I didn't avoid very well at all.

From your description I think his show would make me go all facepalm.

I don't understand what Rick says about being discriminated against at CNN.  They gave him an afternoon show called "Rick's List."  Then, they gave him an additional hour at 8pm.  CNN has just had problems finding an audience.  Reports say Anderson Cooper was planning to leave, but is staying now after getting a daytime syndicated talk show with Time Warner to fill the void Oprah leaves.  Rick is upset with Jon Stewart for calling him out and CNN.  I feel Jon believes CNN should/can be a much better news network.

Like others said, I expect to see Rick at FOX once his non-competition clause runs out--usually 6 months.  However, there was a local anchor fired here who successfully won a court case that she was fired and had the right to work, so the non-competiton clause was void.
