Deep kissing, exposure to blood, seroconversion
« on: May 14, 2013, 11:25:57 am »
:-\ To make a long story as short as possible, I've been with the same man for 10 years, but on the 10th of April 2013 we split up for a few days. On the 13th of April (a Saturday), I deep French kissed a guy that I know (his HIV status is unknown), the kiss lasted maybe 4 minutes. On Monday April 15th, I developed sores in my mouth and went to my PCP and she diagnosed it as gingivostomatitis. The same day I developed a headache, fatigue and malaise. Fast forward to today, may 14th, I have had diarrhea for 2 days, and the headaches have occurred every day since the 15th of April, which is highly unusual for me. I got back with my fiancé and have had sexual contact because my HIV tests have came back negative and so has his (i was afraid i had contracted HIV from kissing). However, my fiancé has developed the same symptoms. We both have a body rash, which i went to see my dermatologist and got diagnosed with folliculitis. We both have headaches, fatigue and have had mouth ulcers. I tested negative with an oral test 2 weeks after possible exposure, and then negative again with a blood test at 28 days after possible exposure. I have also been tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis and they were all negative. The man that I kissed had been complaining of headaches, swollen lymph nodes and fatigue and also had the same type of rash the following week at work. I'm literally driving myself crazy, wondering if my tests were just done too early. So I guess what i'm asking is this
1. What if the man I kissed was in seroconversion phase (when HIV is most contagious) and he had bleeding gums, ulcers or just blood in his mouth, could i get HIV from deep French kissing and exposing myself to his blood in mouth or high levels of HIV virus?
2. Is 28 days after possible exposure a pretty good timeline if both my fiancé and i have tested negative?
3. Is folliculitis, fatigue, and a constant headache for 31 days typical of acute HIV infection?
Thank you for taking the time to read my question. I'm just a terrified mom of 2 that needs reassured. Sorry this story was all over the place, i'm just nervous and scared.....

You can relax . HIV is not acquired thorough kissing , for that to happen to you it would be the first time in the history of the epidemic that it happened , and that's not going to happen . We always assume the other partner is HIV positive with a high viral load when we do these assessments .

We do not discuss symptoms because they could be from thousands of other conditions and are in no way specific to HIV . The only way to know your HIV status is to test at the appropriate time . You had zero risk and do not need to test over this incident .

HIV is acquired sexually though unprotected vaginal or anal sex , as long as you use condoms correctly and consistently you will avoid exposure to HIV .

If you are feeling unwell see your doctor , its not HIV .

Thank you so much for your response! My fiancé and I went and got tested again today and we were both negative. I'm just wondering what else you can contract from saliva, because I'm for sure not myself, but blood tests are showing nothing! I'm just thankful you responded to me & helped ease my mind! Have a great week!
