Cortisone in my back?
« on: October 31, 2009, 10:14:38 am »
I may have to have a cortisone shot in my lower back.  I am in severe pain and it is not really getting any better.  Is there any effect from that to HIV and my Meds?  I am on Prezista,Truvada and Norvir.

I need pain relief BADLY!

  Mpos,

I have mcl damage and every two years my knee starts to ache really bad.  A good ole cortisone shot up under the knee cap and I am good to go for another two years.  Hope it gives you the relief you seek.
I despise the song Love is in the Air, you should too.

hi m.

as a fellow back pain sufferer, i can relate.

are you considering epidural or trigger point injections?

just an fyi, corticosteroids are a double edged sword. while they are potent and effective anti-inflammatories, a lot of the cortisone used for this type of treatment is fairly "long-term" (e.g. betamethasone which typically lasts 3-8 weeks in the body) and corticosteroids do suppress the immune system. keep that in mind and make sure the doc considering giving you the shot is aware of your poz status and numbers, so that you can make the best informed choice.

best of luck to you.

Thanks all.  I am gonna try to stick it out for the next week or so until I see my ID doc and talk to him about it.
