Worried and confused
« on: July 02, 2013, 08:57:02 am »
I believe I may be worrying for no reason, but it's better for me to air it all out than just stress about it by myself. 8 days ago I had protected vaginal intercourse with a escort whose status I obviously don't know, even though she assures me she's clean and healthy. Also received protected oral but did unprotected cunninglus.

Okay, now about a couple hours after this happened I developed a sore throat which still remains, my lips became incredibly sore after that and I now have a cold sore with swollen lips. I've had cold sores in the past but never have i gotten swollen lips as well. I had a headache on the 3rd day after, a slight fever the say after and have developed a slight cough as well. Now, I went to the clinic 2 days after and they tested me for everything in which I received negative results, but obviously I know a HIV test results would give no indication at this point but was instructed that I didn't need to test for HIV as I wasn't exposed at all. These symptoms however have got me thinking otherwise though. It's even made me wonder if the condom may have broke, however I'm under the impression it's quite obvious when they do as the rip is quite severe?

Do you think this is a case of my anxiety getting the better of me or do you think I should test for HIV Duo test at the 4th week? Also, is it even possible to experience symptoms of HIV within the first couple days of infection?

Curious,

You do not need further hiv testing as you did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

Protected intercourse is just that - protected and yes, you would have known if the condom broke.

Cunnilingus is not a risk for hiv infection. It can be a risk for herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia though, although it's not common for the latter two to be transmitted during cunnilingus.

You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection and you do NOT need further testing over this NO RISK situation.

If you're worried about your lips or whatever, go see a doctor. Whatever is going on has NOTHING to do with hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Hi, okay I know you said I was at no risk but the weirdest thing just happened which has got me worrying again. I was Rubbing nose and out of nowhere it started bleeding? Is this a symptom of HIV or any other type of std as it was really random and weird. It's stopped bleeding now but I'm still a bit worried and shook up about it.

Thanks.

Curious,

As Rodney said, it's nothing to do with hiv - or any other STI for that matter.

If you nosebleed worries you, go see a doctor. Again, it's nothing to do with sexual activity whatsoever - unless you smashed your nose while jumping off the wardrobe.
