I just got better from a Flu and this coming Tuesday I heard that they will have Flu shots at work. My doctor told me to get it but last time I got it I felt like crap and guess what, I got a Flu.
So confusing. I keep imagining horrible things. It is just a dead virus correct? I am going to Mexico in a month on vacation and I thought that it might be a good idea to get it now other than getting a FLU while I am there.
Thoughts anyone?

I always get a flu shot, every year. Had mine just last week, in fact.

you don't get the flu from a flu vaccine... end of story...
-
I don't understand the choices... ???
-
Get your damn flu shot!
/Long personal anecdote deleted on further reflection/
-
Get mine every year without fail, 1430hrs tomorrow in fact.
Apart from a slightly sore arm sometimes I've never had any bad effects and I know that it's impossible for the shot to give you flu.
Having had flu a few years ago I know that I don't want to ever catch it again.
John.

Scheduled for mine along with my six-month visit. Always got one pre-dx.
-
I got my shot today.
-
Will have my flu shot, soon.
pozzitive, it's possible you could have had contact with the flu virus before your flu shot. Therefore you became ill.
A door handle or water faucet knob at work or even in from the door handle of the clinic. Not from the vaccine. Probability is null. The influenza virus prevention shot is not live virus.
FluMist, a recently developed nasal vaccine does have modified live viruses and should be avoided by people with HIV or cancer or pregnant women, or asthmatics or people over 50. This is an alternative that was developed as a needle-free method for kids (over age of 5).
Have a great time on vacation!

Mike

Just booked an appointment this morning for November 6 to get mine at my clinic (as I do every year). They’re only giving them starting next month. Otherwise, I would have asked for it before now.

Got mine last Thursday at work.

Got mine yesterday

I always get the flu shot. Got mine about three weeks ago, I think.
You can't get the flu from the flu shot because the virus in the shot is dead. It can cause your body to start acting like it is infected and begin building antibodies, which is what its supposed to do. In such cases, you may feel ill, but nothing like the actual flu, which can be quite debilitating.
By the way, nobody who is immune compromised should take the aerosol flu vaccine. It contains live flu virus.
Get the shot. Its worth it.
HUGS,
Mark

I get mine next week. I don't know why I'm always given it at the end of the month or the first of november.
-
I got mine a week ago and been getting one every year for 2 three years now and never get a flu from it. Go get it
-
I don't understand the choices... ???
No one ever explained this poll to me.
-
got mine today - fingers crossed for a flu free season :)--
-
I had mine Friday at work. My ID doc smiled happily when I told her I'd already done it.
-
Got mine today, along with my lab numbers.
First flu shot I've had since I was a child, but don't have any bad expectations....
-
get the damn shot. the flu kills tens of thousands of people every year ... many the yng, the elderly and those with suppressed immune systems. So, guess what, you are poz and you have a suppressed immune system whether you want to admit it or not. What is all the damn drama about, get the shot!!!!

I signed up at work, about a month or so ago for the flu shot. The residents already received theirs, and the employeees were notified Monday that we would receive ours this week.
So, I get mine about 10:00 tonight when I go into work. This is for the convienience of the graveyard shift workers.

I got my shot like two weeks ago; however, I STILL don't understand the poll:
Question: The Flu Shot - Should I? Should I not?
Options:
flu shot
the flu shot
Am I missing something here?
edited for a tiny typo
-
yea I got my shot last Monday and feel like hell this week. What's the point...
-
We Pozzies get them free up here, does that apply in most jurisdictions?
-
Got mine on Monday! I never have a problem with the shots, and intend to get it every year.
-
I always get mine, I don't really understand why somebody wouldn't.
Though this year was the first time I felt unwell after, but only for 24 hours.
Doesn't hurt and saves me coming down with unwanted flu/
-
Got my annual jab on Tuesday, no problem, but then there never is.
-
The poll makes no sense to me either.
I got my flu shot today. I always feel like crap for a few days afterward but it beats the flu.
I think the flu shot doesnt keep you from getting the flu but it will make your symptoms less severe.
I think...

The Flu shot depending on you're immune system is supposed to help build antibodies to the flu .Having said that I think it's important to get the shot. It wont prevent the flu per say but help protect against more severe strains of the flu.
For example if you get the flu you shouldn't get as sick as you would providing you never recieved the shot. Yes people get sick after the shot I'd rather get the shot just to be safe. However I have been told by my doctor that its not recommmended to get the shot if you have T cells below 200.

LOL
My doctor pretty much insisted I get the flu shot, especially because my tcells are below 200.
Different docs have different opinions.
-
Hi ... my Doc says anyone poz should get the flu shot .....
-
I agree the poll makes no sense.
Further I agree it makes all the sense in the world to get the flu shot. The shot does not guarantee you won't get the flu (there are more than the three strains in the shot) but will greatly minimize the harm that can come from the flu. It's a no brainer....but remember the shot...not the mist!

Lol you're right it was one of my old doctors in Bethesda that said that she was a little strict as well. Everyone else has recommended the shot.

About a week after getting the flu shot my legs would really ache at night when I'd try to sleep. So I took Ibuprofen which would ease the majority of it. That lasted about three nights and was fine thereafter.

It is now a couple of days after my flu shot. I dont feel any crappier than usual but my arm is sore. BTW I have 77 tcells so not feeling like crap because of the flu shot is a nice surprise.

Flu shot?
I work with snotty nosed, barfing, sneezing and coughing in your, face babies and toddlers all day. You bet I get the flu shot.

Hello Everyone,
I hope all is well I would like to encourage everyone to take a flu shot. You cannot get the flu from the shop, so lets put that theory to rest. I would also advise anyone who will be taking the shot to take 2 advils or tylenols before or after your shot. This will aid you against getting a fever or having aches that may be related to the shot. I took my shot Oct 9th and I have been doing okay. I hope everone will enjoy their thanksgiving and until next time - take care!
