Very interesting, thanks for posting. This description of one of their monoclonal antibodies sounds like ps/anti-ps:

TSG101 is normally is restricted to the inside of cells, where it is regulates the movement of proteins. During viral infection, TSG101 is “hijacked” by viral proteins and sent to the cell surface. In doing so, TSG101 is exposed on the outer cell membrane and FGI has shown that TSG101 can be targeted using monoclonal antibodies.

They have several recent patents, some specifically for the antibodies targeting HIV.

Inch,

I saw that also and at first believed it was anti-ps. IT'S NOT. It's another target on all cells infected with virus. Read more:

Very interesting! And look at this statement (from http://www.functional-genetics.com/sections/Product-Pipeline/FGI-101.html ):

Elimination of HIV-Infected Cells by FGI-101. Studies with human blood cells demonstrate that FGI-101 treatment can eliminate virus-infected cells and prevent the propagation of HIV in cell-based assays.

This is a very unequivocal statement, now we just have to see if this translates in vivo . But all in all, very interesting data so far. They will submitting an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the US Food and Drug Administration in the first quarter of 2010, if accepted, one can only hope it's fast tracked.

J220,

This therapy is another one to watch ----- If it does work in-vivo like it has in-vitro, we have two potential
(at the very least ) therapies that seem to fight the virus without having to worry about resistance since it doesn't attack the virus directly.

Yes...no...maybe...who knows? At least there is a FDA fast-track process for highly promising therapies. We can only hope this goes that route, so maybe in 2-3 years we could see something come out of it.
