Negative result...still extremely worried!

Hi all thanks for reading this post.

Around 9 weeks ago I had a low risk unprotected encounter with a guy I do not know was hiv positive or negative. Shortly over a week after exposure I was tested negative by the most effected test out, I live in the UK I think it's the 4th gen test? Not too sure, but they took my blood and told me they show results in like 10 days.

Anyways, I went on to show no symptoms whatsoever and thought at last my ordeal is over. But enough internet search proved its at 6 weeks tests are conclusive. So at 7 weeks, I went for a follow up 4th gen test. The result, is still negative. I am now wondering is their a possibility I can still be infected? The nurse told me to come back in a months time to make the 3 month window period absolute, but she said that the test should come back negative if the 7 week one did...


So...whats your professional opinions? very low risk exposure of unprotected dipping, no ejaculation and 2 negative 4th gen tests. Is the 3 month test going to change as I'm losing sleep again over thinking its not over yet =/

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result.

Its rare for a 6 week negative test to come back positive but it must be confirmed at 3 months .
