HIV medication without insurance
« on: November 07, 2015, 05:04:47 pm »
Friends i was out of job for a year. I used up my mail order ATRIPLA and started using VIRADAY which generic ATRIPLA in india. I got sick twice in last four months with fever.

Now i just had my labs done. To my surprise my viral load spiked to 80k from undetectable and CD4 dropped from 740 to 400

I dont know if viraday did not work for me or i got counterfeit medication. Npw i want to go back  ATRIPLA. But the cost is very high.

Iam still unemployed and trying to figure out best way to get my meds in US. Iam trying to find my options. Will it be cheaper to back to sustiva and truvada rather than going back to atripla

Suggestions are greatly appreciated

Thx
Pink

Are you living in the U.S. and you got generic Atripla from India?

If you're in the U.S., you can apply for Gilead's Patient Access Program here, http://www.gilead.com/responsibility/us-patient-access/atripla%20patient%20access%20program, which is for the uninsured.

You could also apply for Medicaid or ADAP (Aids Drug Assistance Program) in your particular state.

It sounds like whatever meds you've been taking haven't been working. I understand not every jurisdiction in the U.S. throws money and resources at people with HIV, but please try to exhaust all of your options in this country before seeking assistance in other countries. Come to this site, find a local aids service organization, your local health department, your state's health department, hell, adam4adam, grindr, whatever. `

I am not sure where you are in the world. However, if you can make it to Thailand, you can buy generic meds at the Redcross here (http://en.trcarc.org/). They sell original and generics at a subsidized price. You can buy a maximum of 6 months at a time and will need a prescription (you can usually use your home-town prescription).
You can see a list of the available meds and their costs here : http://www.adamslove.org/en-d.php?id=73
I hope this helps.

You need to be in touch with your nearest Aids Service Organization. I was a case manager at the local one where I reside for a few years and they are the go-betweens a lot of times between the client and getting meds.  Unfortunately I don't have the link readily available so you can find out which one is closest to you, but your ID doctor should be able to point you in the right direction, or your local health department.  The ASO can help; we were able to get meds for people who are not citizens.
