Gallbladder Removal...Blah

I go in for surgery tomorrow.  I dread it.  I realize laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) is not that serious but every time I have been in the hospital for anything, I either end up with a fever that won't quit or end up staying much longer than anticipated.  Tomorrow my surgery is outpatient supposedly.  The other mistake is reading the horror stories on the net.  I had a much more serious surgery 2 years ago with a kidney tumor removal and I remember I was surprisingly calm about that surgery.  Of course that ended up going from laparoscopic to open and ended up with a fever for 10+ days.  I know I will be fine but surgery sucks.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Quit reading the online horror stories; you sound like the posts about the fear of starting meds for the first time!   ;) (I'm kidding, by the way)  Most post only the bad cases, not the good ones.  I've known several people who've had the same surgery, and all have had no problems.  Seriously, good luck with it; I bet you'll be fine!

I had the surgery last September.It was very easy,and I wondered later,why I was so worried beforehand
           My average attack would last 8 hours.I must have had well over 100 hours of agony.I can eat fat again now,without an attack. plus,I lost 25 pounds and love that.

Joe, wishing you the best on a speedy recovery.  I've had many in my family who had to have their's removed--mostly women for some reason.

Seconded, having my gallbladder out was my first surgery and I was out of the hospital in like 4 hours?

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes.  It went extremly smoothly.  I agree the waiting was worse than the procedure itself.  Of course, valium+vicodin= HEAVEN.  Just have some bloating, abdominal soreness, and some right shoulder pain from the carbon dioxide they pump you full of.  Hopefully be back to myself in a few days.  Now if I could lose a few pounds that would be a bonus!

I was very short of breath following my surgery because air had gotten trapped under my diaphragm.  It took about 3 or 4 days to go back to normal.
