So, I had my second visit with my ID doc today. All the numbers were in and she was content. So, the long-awaited discussion of what meds to start on. The phenotype test is the only one not back yet but given all the other information she said "I'm pretty confident with the rest of the info I have that we're good to go".

First, we compared atripla/stribild. She said most of her patients she has on Atripla have done well, but not all completely get rid of the side effects-especially the dreams and depression. Also that it's becomming more second-line and she's starting fewer and fewer on it given what else is available. So, we excluded that one. Because of my kidney/kidney stones/always having ^ RBC in my UA, she was leary of stribild. She said stribild is a good drug but can really be damaging to your kidneys. She said, though my kidney function is fine right now, there's no long-term studies to show how it will effect healthy kidneys over time and also being as how I've had issues already, she didn't want to chance it.

Ok...what else is once-per day? She then talked to me again about Truvada/Tivicay. She said she is actually pretty excited about Tivicay as she has seen some really wonderful results and all of her patients she's started on it have tolerated it with no problems and so far no changes on kidney/liver tests where on previous drugs there were. So, that's the deal. I'm going to start that hopefully today, maybe within the next day or 2. (tivicay is a non-formulary drug so the doc has to go through the hooplah to get it...but she said don't worry, she'll get it).

Anyone else on this regimen or have any experience with it?

There have been many threads about Tivicay and Truvada.  If you do a search here, you can find a lot of information about this combo and what people had to say about it.

best of luck

I can only speak for myself, but Atripla was not good for me mosty because of mental side effects.  My doctor and neurologist felt the sustiva was the cause of my small fibre neuropathy.

It wasn't until I switched meds that my nerves started to heal somewhat.  I can wear shoes now and don't suffer with it a lot these days, but it still bothers me from time to time

Most do well on it though, it usually doesn't cause that in most people, I guess I just happened to be one of the 5 percent it effects that way as far as the neurological issues
