HIV Transmission - Fingering/Kissing/Tasting Vagnial Fluid
« on: September 18, 2010, 02:05:12 pm »
Hello,

I went to a strip club two weeks ago and took a lap dance. I didn't aware of the HIV status of dancer.  During the dance, we kissed both on our lips and tongue. Though i didn't have any open cuts/bleeding gums in my mouth except chapped lips without any cuts. I was very afraid of HIV infection. Later on same day, i took another dance from a dancer who informed me that she used to take drug. I was very afraid of HIV infection.

Around 5 weeks before, i fingered another dancer for 10 - 30 secs and tasted my finger after taking out from vagina. I didn't know whether i had any vaginal fluid but finger is wet due to insertion into vagina.

 My Questions:
1. Is i am infected to HIV through kissing mentioned as above?
2. If her saliva is contaminated with blood, do i am infected?
3. Is i will get infected by tasting vaginal fluid?

Please advice.

Thanks
AnSe

AnSe,

1. Kissing is not a risk for hiv infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Not one person has ever been infected through kissing and you aren't going to be the first.

2. Unless you're in the habit of repeatedly punching a person in the mouth before you kiss them, there could not possibly be enough blood present to pose a risk.

3. You will not be infected through tasting vaginal fluid. You could give a woman oral sex without a risk.

Here's what you need to know in order to remain hiv negative:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER KISSING, FINGERING OR TASTING VAGINAL FLUIDS, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Ann,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I think i am very afraid of it. I keep asking same question in different expert forum in medhelp.org, Webmd and here.  All the Doctors (Dr.Handsfield, Dr.Sean) in MedHelp also answered the same that i am not infected to HIV and don't need any testing.

I think i need to consult a doctor for my OCD. I should consult a psychiatrist soon.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

AnSe,

You're welcome.

And yes, please do seek counselling. You don't have to live your life in fear of hiv. Unless you're having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse with someone of unknown or positive hiv status or sharing needles to inject drugs, you're just not going to become infected.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It REALLY is that simple!
