Energy Surge
« on: October 10, 2007, 03:54:04 pm »
So I have been taking Reyataz, Truvada, and Norvir for exactly three weeks.  The change in my life has been stunning.  I wrote to the forums earlier that I was feeling better after only about 5 days on the drugs.  I can report that everyday I feel surging energy.  It feels miraculous, honestly.  Suddenly, I feel like doing things.  All summer I was feeling desperately tired:  fatigued, anemic, weak, listless, cloudy-headed.  Now I have so much energy I hardly know what to do with it.  Whereas before the idea of even grocery shopping seemed exhausting, now I am thinking of taking road trips and going bowling and, blessedly, resuming my yoga practice.  I have literally felt a tingly feeling on my skin at times, which could simply be emotional release from depression.

This comes at exactly the right time as I just had a big overseas business trip and the energy I feel enabled me to be on top of things and productive.  My work has improved enormously, and I am getting a lot done.

Above all, my emotional state is much much better.  I feel, actually, happy.  For months I felt dead.  I woke up and just felt like doing nothing.  Now I wake up and charge into the world again the way that I used to.

I have no numbers yet to quantify this feeling.  I am certain however that the meds are working.  I am so very thankful.

Side effects have been very few and I think are even diminishing.  A little nausea in the early evening (I take the meds in the morning).  A potential side effect is slightly disturbed sleep, although I suspect that I am not sleeping very well because my body is healing itself and I have all this manic energy running through me.

Anyway, I wanted to post a quick check-in.  My job requires full attention right now and so I don't pop into the boards as often as I'd like.  Hopefully I will be able to report continued progress going forward.   :D  :D  :D

I've had a rotten day, the lowest point of which was a skin biopsy - you have no idea how much I needed to read a story like that. Thanks for posting - I'm so pleased for you.

Very happy for you Koksi!
I remember I had similar effects, but emotionally I didn't recover for a long time. I am so glad things are looking up for you.
And yeah, mountains of work here too... At least you're disciplined enough to stay off the forums  ;)

I'm glad you feel so energetic Koksi!  You know, some of this could be emotional.  Maybe you were really upset and worried about your recent state of health and the meds put your mind at ease.  Maybe a combination of meds and just overall feeling more positive.

Yes, the same happened to me last year when I finally obtained undetectable VL after 13 years.

All summer I was feeling desperately tired:  fatigued, anemic, weak, listless, cloudy-headed.  Now I have so much energy I hardly know what to do with it.

Honey, I know that feeling. At one point I couldn't even lift a spoon to my mouth! Boy was that terrifying

Keep up the good work. We're real glad for you

Random update.

I am feeling stronger and better than I was last year prior to starting meds, but I'm not feeling as strong as I was for that first month after starting meds.  That was really an amazing experience.  Generally, I feel I have settled into a level of mild fatigue that isn't as bad as pre-meds, but isn't good either.

My last numbers were really good in terms of VL, but again, because I am here in Europe, they are weird about the tests they do, and so I don't have CD4 count yet.  I am nearly undetectable virus-wise.

Generally, I have good days and bad days.  I do feel that I am out of shape, and I occasionally get a winded feeling even when I am not doing anything.  I have FINALLY started yoga again, and am really proud of myself for that, and hope that it will help return some strength to my body.

I guess I am just afraid of this fatigue.  It's my only problem at this point.  And it brings me down emotionally.  I am now drinking a lot of coffee and even energy drinks (sugar free) to try to boost my energy levels.

Just thought I would share my experience.

Koksi, thanks for the update.  I am on the same combo for almost six weeks now.  I too feel more energy, but I wouldn't call it a surge.  Still, I don't tire as easily at work now.

These meds seem to be working out well for me.  After twenty days, my viral load was way down.  Also the itchy dry rash on my back has cleared up, and the thyroid gland swelling has subsided.  I'm eating and sleeping well.

Adverse reactions have been few and mild.  I was looking kind of yellow last week, but that seems to be fading now.  And I've been ripping some nuclear farts!    ;D   My next lab test will be in late May, so I'll see just how effective it is then.

Is your most recent lab result from last year, or are you undetectable now?

It's a complex world

Koksi, I would watch my intake of coffee/energy drinks.  They can actually have a reverse affect after awhile and cause fatigue, especially taken in large amounts.

Hi There,

I would also agree with Betty. You may get a temp. uplift, but these energy drinks can also drain your energy levels too.

I remember when I started meds, and the rush or surging of energy ( like you had mentioned earlier) When My energy levels came back, it made me realise just how tired and how fatigued I was prior to starting on meds. I certainly don't have those energy levels, like I did 4 and a half years ago, but things seemed to have balanced out for me. I had wonderful energy levels, and nothing seemed to slow me down, those first few months of starting meds.

I also have good days and bad days. I just try to slow down a little on those bad days, and try to recoup my energy levels. And I try not to go overboard on those good days ! Got to pace yourself !

About the only thing I do, is try to get some exercise in,  Make sure to eat nutritious foods.( Stay away from junk food as much as possible) some of that stuff will zap your energy fast. I also try top make sure I get at least 8 hours of sleep a day, and in most cases I can do that pretty easily. KNow when to slow down and take a break !!

Koksi,

Thanks for the uplifting post.  I'm glad your new meds have you feeling so good.  I can understand about the energy drinks and coffee.  They are a great little pick me up but they can also make you crash and don't last. (I type as I take a sip of coffee).  Good luck kicking the caffine habit.
