Early symptoms
« on: August 14, 2012, 05:54:30 pm »
Hi there
Firstly wish id found this place a while back!!!

Ok so i guess im posting here on the basis of hoping someone was in a similar position to me and hoping to god they came back with a negative result

Im a 32 year old male from the uk who travels frequently, and over the last 4-5 years ive had sex usually with protection, but on a few occassions without. Always vaginal though and sometimes ive performed oral
Sex on the women. However the majority of the sex has been with prostitutes, sometimes coming from africa as well. I know crazy when i think about it, however its usually been while under the influence of alcohol. Now given the fact that only a few occassions (not more than 4 times) have been without protection and the encounters have only been relatively quick encounters not more than 5 mins , ive kinda lived these last 4-5 years without giving it too much conisderation

Firstly i know i need to get tested and im trying to find the courage to take the tests before the end of this month, god help me!

My main concerns have been driven out of events this year. Approx 5 months back i started having problem with my gums bleeding (sometimes severley) without reason. Went to the dentist who told me i had necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, basically when i reached this condition all the indicators point to HIV, and back in the early days if hiv it used to be called hiv associated periodontitis...... Kinda worrying anyway its been treated and is all but 99.9% cleared (my oral hygene had been poor for years prior to that, ie brushing once a day, no regular dentist trips, no floss or mouthwash etc) but still occassionaly bleed under brushing but hardly ever now

So with that clearing up i put hiv to the back of my mind, and delayed testing

Then in the last 3 weeks ive developed impitago on my forehead quite badly, docs have given me some strong penecilin based antibiotica which lasted a week and cleared up 85% of it. Today they have given me a further weeks supply to hopefully clear it. Again after researching impitago i find a weakened immune system/ disease like Hiv can be a contributory factor in these problems developing

Ultimately im hoping someone of similar experience reads this lost and can give some feedback either positive or negative!!!??!!!

Ultimately i know i need to get tested to know conclusively what my status will be, given these recent events and my past history ive convinced myself im 99% gonna be positive and im kinda preparing for that

Ive given myself a month from this post to get the courage to go for the test

Thanks
Gaz

Gaz, nothing you are reporting symptomatically is in anyway HIV specific. In fact you need to know for future reference that neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms can ever be the basis for knowing your HIV status.

Only an HIV test at 3 months after the most recent unprotected intercourse can give you a reliable negative result. You can test initially at 6 weeks after the latest risk. If you test negative at that point then the likelihood is you will test negative again at 3 months.

You need to stop putting your life at risk with unprotected intercourse. You can have intercourse with anyone you want to regardless of their HIV status. But you need to do it the safer way which mean always without exception using a condom everytime. No exceptions, no excuses.

And you don't need courage to get tested. Go in there with your knees shaking if you have to. The important thing is to get tested because whatever the result that puts you in the best position to take care of your health.

And don't misinterpret what I am saying. I am not saying that I expect you to test positive. All I am saying is the wisest thing is to get tested. So stop the drama and get it done.

Good luck and keep us posted.
