Travelling to the US
« on: April 12, 2013, 07:35:13 pm »
I will be spending 5 weeks in the US from the beginning of June. Now that it's legal to go there, should I carry my Eviplera (Complera) in my hand luggage or pack it away; do I need an explanatory letter from my clinic about the medication; and does anyone think their might still be difficulties in regard to the US airport of entry?

Also, can I make the 5-hour switch of the time I take my med., or should I change over (and back) gradually? And is there anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would never fly anywhere and put medication that I need in a checked piece of luggage. They do get lost sometimes you know. As long as you travel with the original prescription bottles with labeling there should be no legal issue. Probably previously there was a question about HIV and other no-go transmissible diseases on the card they hand out to passengers on the plane an hour before landing, that you then fill out and hand over to customs in the international arrival terminal. That question should not exist now. If a customs person inspects your luggage and asks what the medication is for (though I doubt that would ever happen) you can just say what it's for. It's not illegal so what would be the issue to answer the truth?

As far as how to adjust your medication schedule just do whatever is easiest. You can always just skip a day if you need to, you won't die.
