Post by: Jeffreyj on August 11, 2006, 05:20:58 am
With the new carry-on rules, I guess Fuzeon being a liquid, is not allowed? Has anyone heard anything? thanks ...

Jeffrey:

You should be okay with Fuzeon.

This is from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's website:

Quote
TSA is immediately implementing the following changes to airport screening procedures:

No liquids or gels of any kind will be permitted in carry on baggage. such items must be in checked baggage. This includes all beverages, shampoo, sun tan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.

Exceptions: Baby formula and medicines, which must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.

Beverages purchased in the boarding area, beyond the checkpoint, must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.

Passengers traveling from the United Kingdom to the United States will be subject to a more extensive screening process.

These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated as circumstances warrant.

So, by the looks of things, you can travel with Fuzeon on board.  However, be sure that you have an actual prescription label that matches the name on your boarding pass.  If the Fuzeon does not have an accompanying prescription label, chances are that airport security will dump the vials.

Be sure to call your airline, before your flight, to discuss any procedures you should follow.  It definitely doesn't hurt to be too careful in this regard.

Jeffrey,

If I were you, I'd also get a letter from your doctor (again make sure your name on the letter matches the name on your passport exactly). I read that liquid medicines must be accompanied by documentation - pills just need the correct label.

I used to fly with pegintron packs which include a vial of liquid as well as needles and I always had a letter with me. Most of the time I didn't need it, but there were times when I did. Better safe and prepared than sorry.

By the way, the letter does not need to say anything about your illness, only that you need the medication with you.

Hi Jeffery,
I flew with Fuzeon a few times. (Before the increased restrictions that happened this week) I kept everything in my carry-on, I carried a letter from my doctor stating I had to take the meds, along with sub-q injections for a medical condition. When I went through customs and security, I told them upfront I had medication and needles in my carry-on that I took for a medical condition. All they said was thank you for telling us...

With the changes over the past few days, your bag might get searched, but I don't think you will have a problem. You can also take a copy of the info from the homeland security office that states medication is allowed in the carry-on.
