Condom break possible ars or whether change or anxiety
« on: May 09, 2013, 12:43:50 pm »
Hello,

Thanks for answering my question. On April first week I had a condom break in the last 2-3 minutes of sex with sex worked. After that I have done a lot of research and also experienced following symptoms.

1) after 9-10 days of sex I had cold and because of cold fever at night and took PCM. Fever and cold went away after 2 days. Just so you know that I had a lot of anxity and whether change in our region.

2) After 17-18 days I had some pain in my stomch leading to loose motions. Which also went away after 1 day by taking some home remedy. Again had a lot of anxity in this period and whether change and also had a bad chicken.

3) Had one normal pimple on my arm and one on my back after 21-22 days. Again it could be because of anxity because I was reading about skin rashes and very next day I had a pimple.

4) after 32-34 days I am facing losse motion and stomch pain. Loose motion went away after 2-3 loose stools. This could be because I was travelling too much from last 10 days and had a very hectic schedule and had a lot of anxity about the possible exposure.

I will really appreciate if you can assess my stimulation and provide your input on same.

Also, I am going for test possible next week. I would like to know the name of test which I can undergo after 6 weeks to check my status.

Thanks in advance.

I have read your concerns carefully and it seems you did have a risk so you will need to be tested at 6 weeks post exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results . You will most likely be given a oral swab test .

It lowers your risk because you were the insertive partner but lower risk does not equal no risk , so you do need to test . The symptoms you are having are not specific to HIV and that's why we do not discuss symptoms , the only way to know your HIV status is to test .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Try not to get to anxious because of this , its rare for the insertive partner to test positive after a condom break and I bet you are going to come out of this OK . Sexual health checkups are a good thing so just look at this as something you need to do any way . Best of luck .

Thanks for reply. As mentioned by you that the sysmtoms are not similar to ars. I would like to know if you can provide me some details on the symptoms that are ars sysmtoms.

Also, you said you bet that I am going to be negative, I would like to know what are the chances of getting the infection.

Also, after the sex I had a discussion with the girl and she said she is clean and get regularly checked. Also when she got to know about condom break she was more worried about she getting pregnant because of it.

Thanks in advance.

Your risk assessment is ALWAYS based on the activity, and NEVER on the symptoms. The symptoms of ARS are generally way too vague and general to be a predictor of HIV infection.

Your risk as the insertive partner experiencing a condom break is very low. As moderator Jeff has pointed out, low risk does not equal no risk. A test at six weeks should be all but definitive, but the three month test remains the global gold standard.

As someone who has handled risk assessment on these forums for over ten years, I have never seen an insertive partner test positive after a condom break. That's likely to be thousands of instances. I do not expect you to be the first.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

The only way to know if you are HIV positive or negative is to Test at the appropriate time . Its futile to discuss symptoms so we do not get into that , symptoms are not specific to HIV so as much as you would like to comment on ARS symptoms we simply cant because it doesn't help a thing . There are infinitely more condition that fit the same criteria if you ere to search for HIV symptoms .

I hate to keep saying no to you but we do not give odds or percentages when we do risk assessments because it would be impossible for us to factor in all the variables in order to be accurate .

The bottom line is a risk is a risk and now you must wait 6 weeks to test and again at three months to confirm the results . In my experience , I think you are going to be OK .

I see JK has answered you first and he is correct in his assessment .
