Oscar Pistorius - what a waste
« on: February 16, 2013, 11:24:14 am »
Wondered if anyone is up to discuss this.

Wasn't so long ago, he was such the golden boy. I remember all the Mugler images,  striking and hot...

One of the interesting takes I have read is that some disabled people do NOT appreciate the "hero-superhuman disabled person" story.  They say they are just like everyone else - want their rights - but are otherwise ordinary.  These "heroes" are fabricated, or at least sold, as "inspiration" for non-handicapped people in a sort of cheesy Nike philosophy...

Not being disabled, I'm not sure. But its interesting to think about.

It's only news because he's a celebrity with a typical "what a waste" storyline. It will be pushed off the news by the next celebrity scandal in short order. Meanwhile many more women will die or be injured under similar circumstances without nary a mention.

Oh, god..... I just saw the first "He hasn't got a leg to stand on" joke online.  I hope we don't have to see that kind of crap all through his trial.

I know! I hate it when I think someone traditionally attractive is cute, because it reminds me how boring I am, but he pushed pretty much all of my buttons.

Are we jumping the gun, though? Did he confess today? I'm out of the loop. On Vampire Standard Time lately.

The NBC Sports reporter (can't remember her name, but is fairly masculine) said when she interviewed him at his home during the Olympics, he was cursing his staff for leaving the garage door open.  She said her crew was to blame.  She said he was very paranoid about security.  But, he let her crew come and set up, while he wasn't there.

And, according to reports, he had all the windows open and unlocked, when the shooting happened.  It would seem if you were that worried about security, you would lock all your windows.  If this was an accident, or even if not, it is more evidence that you are more likely to shoot yourself or a family member, if you own a gun.

Jan

Reading the same headlines and articles, it certainly looks like he argued with her horribly, and possibly stalked her into the bathroom where she had locked herself, strapped on his legs, and shot her dead.

Either he murdered her in cold blood due to relationship problems, or he had become so paranoid that a shooting was inevitable thanks probably to drug use, perhaps performance enhancing.

It will be interesting to see how both sides play out during the trial...  I hope shoddy police work doesn't finally prevent clarification and justice for the victim.  Something went horribly wrong and from the tidbits that leak out it, his story doesnt make much sense.  But, in a perfect world, its a horrible accident.  Blogosphere these last few days say he should be tried for manslaughter, that would be easier to convict.  But the first days, the police let out that they had a rock solid murder case... Then the police bungled, and by then, Pistorius family money and expert legal defense was already pushing back....

Now news reports are out that his brother is facing manslaughter charges as apparently someone was hit by his car in 2010.

Trial begins.  Look at this bionic man.  Again, what a waste if he's a killer....

i think he probably did the deed, and should do the time. we'll see how that plays out

i also know, amputees have many psychological problems (like us, but then i haven't killed anyone) and his were probably compounded by the spotlight that was him.

i don't say this as a way of excusing him, just saying they may have been aggravating factors

Well no matter if he's guilty or not guilty, a person is dead. How sad.  He's gonna argue the climate of fear in his country.  Doubly sad.  And if he is guilty, its just the shit...
