the morning routine
« on: March 10, 2007, 08:00:12 am »
Every morning is pretty much the same.  Drag my ass out of bed after hitting the snooze for the past hour, get ready for work, scrounge something up for breakfast and then take my meds.  I have been on HAART for almost a year.  When I first tested positive I asked a fellow pozzie if you ever forgot you are positive.  He replied that yeah you do, until you take your meds.  Which is true, but now it is pretty much routine just like brushing my teeth.  Some mornings I will chuckle about having to take 7 different pills.  Other times I will cuss because I figure how much those pills in my hand cost.  Every so often one will get lodged in my throat.  There are a couple of things I don't mind have lodged in my throat, a truvada pill is not one of them. And then on the rare morning, like today, I take them with a great deal of sadness.

Well it's time to fill the pill box,
Woods

Sometimes I am able to forget, just for a moment. Then it all comes back. Sorry you are sad. I get that way too sometimes. I take my Atripla at night but that must not be an option for you, with 7 pills.  Anyway, hope you get to feeling less sad.  Cristy

Woods,
I know exactly how you feel. In fact when reading your thread this morning one eyes still closed, I thought I read drug my ass out of bed!!!! Sometimes that is how I feel as I sit on the side of the bed downing a hand full of pills. I do'nt really think it is a good idea to ever forget that you are positive. It seems to stick with me all through the day. Last night I did get to dream of my first love, that was nice. He died of AIDS ten years ago. I suppose the sustiva was good for something more than keeping the virus away last night. Lets feel the sadness and have a good day today anyway. We owe it to ourselves and those we love.

I hate having to wake up from my nap. The most delidcious sleep I get when the levels of meds in my body are the least. I wake up to take my 11 pills, one of them for AIDS. Yes I hate it. But I guess anyone hates to wake up from bliss.

i take my pills at night. Sometimes I am busy talking to family or a friend or eating dinner and having a nice time and then my alarm goes off, and my whole face turns into a frown and walk to my room and get my bottle of water and swallow em and go to bed. It's almost like having a kurfew.

One advantage of taking the meds at night is that you can face the next day without having to think about them until bedtime.  For those who have to take them during the day, I admire your because I would forget to take them.  My Sustiva and Truvada pills are about the size of my multivitamin so I kid myself and pretend I am just taking my vitamins before bed.  Three months on meds now and it's part of the routine.  Strange but true.

I don't think I hate the act of swallowing them as much as the reminder that I need these pills to live. Sometimes my ex will call me at exactly 9:30 to make sure I take them. Sometimes I am happy about this, and sometimes I get a little annoyed. I feel like a little boy who needs to be reminded to take his flintsones.

You are very fortunate to have someone who cares that much.
I don't mind the physical task of taking the pillz... It's just being reminded that bothers me... It's hard to forget that you're sick when you have that twice a day reminder.
I take most of my pillz at night too.

I'm a freak (so I've learned) because I take my pills about an hour after I get up... a time which I understand most people call "the afternoon."

But I'm better able to sleep.  Sustiva makes me a raging insomniac... more so than I already am... and I sleep so much better when I'm 12 hours in instead of one.

I know what you mean. I have this huge box with AM/MORN/AFT/NIGHT sections and the mother is filled with meds, vitamins, supplements, etc. and some days I look at it and am grateful and some days I just want to throw the damn thing out the window. Of course if I did I'd just have go out and get it! LOL! But there are more days than most that I'm gratful the little bastards are keeping me alive.....

I guess we are all allowed to have good days and not so good days. At least I like to think I am!

Only just diagnosed a week and a half now so don't have my first blood numbers back yet - but I'm pretty certain I've been infected for quite awhile now, so there is a good chance I'll have to start right meds away.  I think you all encapsulate how I'm feeling (or think I will feel about it).  Not scared per se, just trying to get used to the idea.
Sucks too cause I've always been bad with adherance to other courses of medicine (anti-biotics, anti-depressants, etc).  I know that with this I can't be that way.  I think that concerns me more than anything else.

Although I was diagnosed in 1988, I've only been on meds since 2002. By now taking them has become just part of my daily routine. I take them with food as prescribed, so it's once with breakfast and again with supper. I really don’t have to think about it anymore.  It just is.

On the rare occasion, I will be filling my dosette (pill tray) for the week and feelings of sadness will suddenly hit me for no apparent reason. Deep down inside I know that comes from lingering grieving for those who went before me and the idea that I will also one day become sick and die. Or get hit by a bus. ;) Those feelings don’t last long tho.

I'm only taking vitamins and I already get Those Days. So I can imagine it'll be similar, the same or worse if/when I have to take meds. The thing is the vitamins alone are a reminder that I have to take that extra bit more care of my health. Most days I feel thankful that I am where I am on my journey (am fully aware I could be in a worse place!) and that I had the commonsense to take charge of my health when I did. But some days, well, I wobble...but like a weeble, I don't fall down anymore. :D

Woods, I hope today is a less sad day for you.

Hey Woods,

Very interesting, I would probably have similar feelings if I took them in the morning.  I take my pills before bed, and by then I am too tired from the day to really think about what it all means.  Right now I am always coordinating when I take them and when I have eaten so I can manage a Sustiva high.

I really admire people who can take their meds at night.  Since they need to be taken at pretty much the same time each day there was just no way I could manage a combo that needed to be taken prior to bed.  I thought it would really put a damper on my whore life....I mean my social life.  The one thing that is constant for me is I get up in the morning, and if I stay out all night I can take them when I get in and then go to bed or sometimes even straight to work.
