Austin Area HIV Speakers Bureau
« on: June 11, 2009, 01:24:12 pm »
Howdy from Austin, Texas.

I was interviewed by the Austin FOX station prior to Austin's participation in the International Candlelight Memorial for AIDS. It was the tenth year for Austin to have a memorial, though we were the first city in Texas to be a part of this movement.

You can see the video of the interview here: http://www.myfoxaustin.com/dpp/news/local/051709_aids_candlelight_memorial_service.

I've been eager to be seen (and heard) as a face and voice for HIV/AIDS in this community since relocating to Austin five years ago. The HIV group I attend has been discussing the possibility of creating a speakers bureau of HIV-positive persons willing to talk openly about living with HIV.

Never being one to put off an idea, I've begun building the website for the bureau. If you live in Austin, Texas or the surrounding communities, feel free to email us. There's a link on the site.

As we get more speakers confirmed (currently my bio is the only one on there), they will be added to the site. Eventually we will relocate the site to another server with its own domain name.

Feedback is certainly welcome, as are suggestions.

Dave Martin
