Guidance please....
« on: March 27, 2009, 11:54:28 am »
In Feb, I visited a CSW.  I fingered for about 90 sec, performed oral on her for about 2 or 3 minutes (she didnt get very wet) and approx 18 minutes of protected intercourse, condom intact and removed properly.

For an odd reason, I got the gut feeling of HIV and started getting paranoid the week after.  My nerves were building and exactly 9 days after I started going downhill.  I had a mild sore throat for 3 days and my neck started to get sore and stiff. For a little while, over those 3 days, my legs and arms tingled.  My temp was off and on but never got over 99.6 for approx 5 days.  The back of my tongue got mildly white and two white lines on my inner cheek.  5 days after symptoms started (2 weeks after exposure) I went to the doctors. Said my throat and mouth were fine.  He said my lymph nodes were not enlarged and took an HIV test, negative. But when he checked my neck....he only checked the lymph nodes under my jaw, I thought he was supposed to check the back of my head/neck/lower neck? He did check my groin and armpit in which he stated they werent any bigger. I have nearly ZERO appetite since symptoms started.  I pray that most of these symptoms are a manifestation of my anxiety.  Since then, I have been suffering from malaise.  I did do another test 20 days after exposure, negative. I do plan on doing the four week test this Wednesday.
1) Should I be concerned or relaxed?
2) Contacted the escort and she claimed she was tested 2 months ago and clean, but now she wont get back to me, which is really bothering me.  Would your assessment still be the same if she recently acquired HIV?
3) Mild fever?  Concerned?
4) Whiteness in mouth?  Doctor said the white on my tongue was nothing to be worried about, but what about my cheeks?
5) Overall feeling of malaise? Typical?

THANK YOU

At no time were you at risk of contracting HIV in the situations you've provided.  You don't need HIV testing for those situations.

Gut, schmut. You used a condom for intercourse which is exactly what you're supposed to do. They provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

And of course she isn't "getting back to you." You're responsible for your own health. She's not your mommy. She's a professional whom you paid to have sex with you. Get over it man! If there had been a risk, which I hasten to say there wasn't, then testing at 13 weeks would be the indicated thing to do. Not questioning the person you were with.

But you didn't have a risk and there's no need for testing.

If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor.

We do advise that anyone who's sexually active ought to regularly have a full STD panel done. At least once a year. Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV. This time you have no cause for concern about HIV.

And stop pestering that woman. Really.

Well I thank you for the "tough love."  So the fact that she got back to me right now and said she just had an indeterminate test wont make a difference in my exposure?  I also had a pretty back hangnail on my finger....

Lance,

Even if she called you back and said she was hiv positive, you still don't have anything to worry about where hiv is concerned because, as you've been told, NOTHING you did or had done to you was a risk for hiv infection. NO RISK.

Keep using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
