Title: Surplus HIV Meds
Post by: gay4kink on November 07, 2006, 05:42:08 pm
I know that there are organizations that take surplus HIV meds (such as when someone changed meds and has excess of their old ones around) and redirects them to those that can't afford meds.  Does anyone know how to locate an organization that provides this service.  I have some meds I'd like to donate.

I donated mine to the Starfish project.  You can go www.thestarfishproject.org
There also is Aid for AIDS.  www.aidforaids.org

I don't know where you live, but you may live in an area that has a collection site nearby.  If not, they can tell you how to mail them.  The Starfish Project paid for the cost for me to Fed Ex mine.  My personal experience with Aid for AIDS was that they didn't ever return any calls or any emails.  I only got a response over a month later to an email I sent--the guy was wondering why I hadn't sent the meds and encouraged me to do so.  This was after I went to the Starfish Project, because the Aid for AIDS wasn't good about answering my question or getting ahold of me.  It could just be a mixup in communication, so don't let my experience put you off them.

There also may be local AIDS organizations that collect unused meds.

Many aren't aware but we have a "med closet" program right here in the Forums, run by Lisa.

If you could just send Lisa a pm, she will be happy to tell you how to get your surplus meds to her.   She has helped lots of us out before, when we needed our meds (me included!)

Thanks,

Alan
