McDonald's Duplex, Taco Bello Townhouse & Homo Depot Condo's
« on: September 19, 2006, 10:13:43 am »
So I was down in Denver a couple of weekends ago and noticed a lot of bad urban planning with mix matched designs, a lack of parks and concrete galore.  More so, I noticed a lot of absurd building re-uses, like a sit-down sushi place attached to a gas station or a day-care out of an old A&W.  This got me to thinking…

What's to happen to all the commercial zoning once we can teleport or beam everything like in Star Trek?  Granted there may still be physical stores for browsing but they will need only a fraction of the space without inventory pressures.  A lot of building vacancies, a growing population and a short supply of building resources may lead to people live in a refurbished McDonalds duplex, a Taco Bell townhouse or the Homo Depot Condo’s.

What do you think?

LOL Spud, I think I want some of what you've been smoking! :D

Here on the Rock there are lots of people who live in refurbished chapels and churches. Does that count?

And my ex husband lives in a refurbished school.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

OK, I will admit I thought this up in an altered state at some point ...   ::)

Imagine all the space for housing if all the churches were converted to shelters or something with a 24 hour use.  Not bad, Ann.

The way things are going...I have a feeling we will be seeing more cardboard condo's and concrete chalet's.

Not too far fetched, we had a McDonald's converted into a gay bar here in Eugene...It looked pretty sad.  Even with remodeling the inside, the outside was still a McDonald's.....and it was the only gay bar we had in town from 99 to 2006.  Nothing better than going out to McBar for a McDrink....oh and supersize that drink......It closed this past February, a local restaurant is now doing catering service out of it.

Back in the day, I used to go to concerts in a place that was originally built as a Supermarket..the acoustics were great and if you got there early, before the place filled up, and the lights were still bright, you could see the scars on the floor where they grocery aisles used to be. ( anyone in Houston remember the Unicorn ??) the heavy duty linoleum floors floors, while making for a somewhat slippery Mosh Pit, were no doubt easy to clean up afterwards...
I also remember going to more than one "icehouse' that was originally built as a gas station...
