What do you think.... should I stay or should I go
« on: December 13, 2007, 10:52:01 am »
Dilemma... facts: 34/poz July 2007. Oct Cd4 1020/VL1025
OK, Now the question.  I am in India and it is so dirty, so nasty that I can't help but think that I am doing myself damage by being in this highly polluted place.  I love to travel, and this is my first trip since my diagnose.. I feel fine, albeit the normal stuff a traveler will get in India, but I can't help but worry. I can't see a Dr here, (they will kick me out of the country if they knew), so I have 1.5 more months here, been here a month... should I stay or should I go?  I don't know, can't say I am having a great time, but it it is not the worst either... lonely I suppose.. and possibly looking for any reason to get out.. but I may (probably) feel guilty if leave early but if I stay am I putting myself in unnecessary risk?  What do you all think?

India is by far the most polluted place that I have been to...

Hey Tramp (I love that moniker!  :D)

Your numbers are great. In fact, with a nice high CD4 and a deliciously low viral load, like you have, you are probably not at any greater risk than an HIV-negative person.

But, if you are feeling uncomfortable in India, I might decide to move on, were I you. Face it, if you're not having fun there, what's the point?

HUGS,

Sounds like you've already made up your mind. If it is causing you concern or worry than I suggest it's time to move on.

Hi TT,

With numbers like yours, I don't think you need to worry about anything other than the usual stuff - stuff I'm sure you're familiar with, being a seasoned traveler. I'm assuming you've had travel vaccinations? I would guess you already know about being careful with water, fresh salads, ice in your drinks - but that's all stuff anyone needs to be careful with when traveling in less developed countries.

I can't tell you what to do, but if it were me, I'd probably stay. I've always wanted to visit India...

darn it, every time I try to post this, one of you lot have posted and I keep getting that damned notification. grrrrrrr.....

Travel is supposed to be fun. Staying another month and half in a place that you're not enjoying sounds like a bad idea to me.

From your description of the dirt and pollution, I would guess that you're in a big city. India is a big country. Look at a map, consult a travel guide, and see if there are any interesting and less polluted places in India that you would like to visit. If you can't find any, then move on.

I'm also wondering what brought you to India in the first place. If you have some compelling reason to stay there you should be able to by taking the necessary health precautions regarding water, what you eat, etc.

How is your healthcare in general while you're traveling? Your numbers are good. Will you be able to continue to have them monitored while you're traveling? How are you feeling?

Head to Goa and chill for a while. Sun, sand and psychedelia. Lots of other stuff to do there too.

India has hot women and good food.  I'd be stoked to be there!  Plus, it's not cold.  What's a little dirt when your stats are so good...

If you're unhappy go somewhere else and/or go home.  You should have no concern for your health -- kind of hard to ascertain what you mean by all the dirt, but then again I've never been there.  That said, even developing nations' large cities have nicer districts.
