Here at 8" above sea level in SoFla, we're experiencing floods like I have never seen. A bud tried to drop me off after work (at about 3:00 AM) only to find that the water was too high to stop near my building and he was forced to move on.
He eventually dropped me off about three blocks away, and I waded through, with the water occasionally reaching my upper thigh: wow!
About 15 minutes after I finally arrived, wet and shivering, a neighbor knocked at my door, warning that the waters were less than an inch away from our doors. I opened and asked him to help me move my carpet (stark naked, of course). He not only helped me move my Tibetan carpet but my sofa as well (which stood on it).
There's a full brook (several inches deep) where my walkway used to be, and the water's still rising, thunder and all. Yow!

Grab your paperwork and make sure it's secure!
eg: insurance policies, mortgage documents, will, birth certificate, passport, diploma's, address books and of course photo albums. These can be a bitch to replace if worst comes to worst.

Oh Bucko I am sorry ,its afterwards that its such a pain clearing up flood water argh. Hope the water stays out side your door. Stay safe

May the waters recede Bucko, the weather has been so strange. We had an October snowfall up north, didn't get much where I live or work, but lots of trees down all over the tri-state area. With the leaves still on trees the ice took alot of them down. Hope your weather gets better down by you.

Thank you everyone who's replied.
I managed to stay awake until about 7:30. Though it continued to rain, it gradually tapered off and, in
fact did, recede. When I woke up, the street and parking lot in front of my building were still flooded, but there was no longer a brook running under my door.
I had plans with a pal to paint some red on Halloween, but cancelled in favor of a quiet night at home, as rain was still predicted to fall. It's now 2:00 AM, the street is wet but not puddley, and the parking lot has pockets of water without looking like a lake.
My apartment is in complete disarray, which I chose to ignore today. Tomorrow I'm gonna put everything back together, and hopefully a friend will be available to help me put my sofa back where it belongs (I can handle the rug just fine). My boots are still completely waterlogged, which bodes ill for working on Tuesday. Hopefully the AC on full-crank will help while I'm sleeping tonight.
It's funny: I moved to SoFla for the weather. And 90% of the time, it's justified as the right decision (If only for that reason), but when we get a case of the weather icks, it's truly horrifying. The members here who remember me getting around six weeks without electricity after Hurricane Wilma remember that.

You answered the door stark naked? ??? Maybe I should change my own approach to meeting new people. seriously, hope the waters don't rise any further.
