how in the hell did act up splinter?
« on: January 01, 2014, 09:43:41 pm »
there is so much i don't know in life, and i have always tried to remember that. i just watched how to survive a plague, i guess public television here in the south is running, i almost jumped into a thread on it until i realized it was the lts board. there were a few things i was very struck by, and a lot that i will be thinking about. but i have two questions

1st
how did some in act up become denialists? how did they turn on each other? i can't understand that. shortly after i first came to this board i posted a burning rant about act up atlanta. i will confess at the time, i knew zero of the history of the group. i could keep going here, but that is the question

2nd
why doesn't (or do they) the organization fight as hard for access to meds? i don't begrudge the aid going to africa or india or anyway hit. but why does it cost so much here, and so little in much of the rest of the world? i realize this may quickly into my socialist politics, and if the simple answer is the first world subsidizes the third world i can understand that.

i am middle aged, but still young in this community. the last things i'll say. if you are like me, didn't live through those years, don't know as much as you should about the history. see it.

and about the atlanta act up rant. i still don't understand how they became denialists. but one thing i do now understand, that an hour ago i could not have fully appreciated.

i would not be alive now, if it were not for act up then

i want to thank the members of this group that were a part of that.

Hi Zach . I am sure some of our members have first hand knowledge about act up and will answer your questions but I want to caution members not to provide links to any denialists websites . Thanks .

I knew your questions would generate conversation and I was just letting members that may not know about our prohibition on denialists links so there wont be hurt feelings if they posted a link thinking it was helpful and ended up with a warning or worse .
