Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Looking to clear something up. I hear the risk of getting HIV from a single sexual encounter is actually quite low less than 1% on average. This makes no sense to me, can someone clear this up as to why. Also is it true giving oral is low risk ?

HIV is a fragile hard to transmit virus that requires specific circumstances to infect . The best environment is the vagina and the rectum due to body temperature , lack of oxygen and the type skin cells makes these places the perfect environment for HIV to latch onto . There are other factors as well .

Cunnilingus isn't a risk , search the world for a HIV positive exclusive lesbian and you will find one only if she uses IV drug injection equipment immediately after a HIV positive person . Cunnilingus and sex toys are not a risk for HIV . 


There have been no fewer than three separate serodiscordant couples studies (where one person is HIV positive, the other negative.) These couples were tracked for three. five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative vaginal and anal sex, but NO BARRIER at all for oral sex. Any kind of oral sex.
These studies yielded NO infections. 

Your saliva has dozens of enzymes and proteins that damage HIV rendering it unable to infect , also the type skin cells required are not abundant in the mouth .
Getting a blow job is not a risk for HIV . Giving a blow job to a HIV positive man with a high HIV viral load while having significant wounds in your mouth , meth mouth or extremely bad oral condition's is where the theoretical risk for HIV transmission is a possibility , a remote possibility at best .

We do risk assessment and answer questions that are pertinent to each individual case , if you have had a risk we will be happy to assesses it for for you , otherwise you can read the forum and find answers to your questions .

Worried sick about an oral sex encounter in which I had a cold sore on mouth. Tested negative at 6 weeks, almost at 3 month point and having headaches a lot now. How long do symptoms last. I cant sleep at night from worrying.

I have answered your question already so read it again . You didn't have a risk so if you are sick go see your doctor and find out why .
