has anyone ever had a pneumonia shot
« on: November 25, 2008, 12:49:58 pm »
It was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my arm, burned when it went in. and for 5 days it felt like I was hit by a sledge hammer and on top of that I felt suicidal and really angry. I am a positive person so I was just wondering if anyone else has had one. My doctor taking the 5th on it maybe shes making some money on the side. testing it on aids patients. Thanks Big Rob

Yep, had mine back in the summer and can remember vividly the pain I felt in that arm for at least a week. You described it well! Oh and I still got pneumonia...matter of fact I am on antibiotics for it now. Fun stuff.

Had one at the start of October (or thereabouts). Arm felt really sore for days and I felt awful for even longer!

I have had one but prior to becoming hiv+, due to a asthma issue.
it was horrid as I had a flu jab in one arm and the pneumonia in the other, i could barely lift my pneumonia arm a few hours after.

the nurse however said it was one pneumonia shot and it lasted for life, so i think i better check that out.

Hello,

I've also had my pneumonia shot, along twith the required booster. I never had any problem with he shot.  We have a great nurse at work who administers these, and she's very good. It also helps if one is not tensed up, while receiving it. My doctor and I were just discussing this, on my last visit, and he says I should be good until I am 65. I am almost 57.

Here's a little additional info also :

Yep, I get the pneumovax every five years or so.

Sometimes the arm is slightly sore, but no other side effects.

Its goal is to prevent your becoming very ill from bacterial pneumonia. You can still get it, but it should not be as severe.

This is not the same as PCP, which isn't caused by a bacteria.

HUGS,

Mark

I got one but barely remember it.  I had worse shots in boot camp:)  As I recall, I massaged the area for the afternoon and did a lot of movement just like we were taught in the military.  And I'm certain I consumed a lot of medical marijuana that day as well (which is probably why I barely remember it).

My pneumonia shot felt just like a flu shot.  My arm was a little sore but it went away in 2-3 days.
Tested positive on September 11, 2008

Yes.  I got one a few years ago.  I recall that it felt like the needle went so deep to strike the bone in my arm. My doctor recommends that I get the shot every five years.  Never had pneumonia though.

I remember having the shivers and being all achy for the next day after I got my pneumonia shot in the butt ... I was feeling much better by the next day.
