Burping on an empty stomach ???
« on: November 19, 2006, 02:41:12 pm »
Hi all ,

Lately I'm finding I have little burps even on an empty stomach, wtf. Is that the viread?  Did some reading last night about lactic aciodosis. Would signs of that show up in my 3 month blood checkups ?

I read here about ppl 10+ years with this. But they almost always have gone a long time without meds. Not to take anything away from them but i feel there is a world of difference being 10 yrs hiv+ and on meds 10 yrs.

Going on my seventh continuous yr on haart.

Viread on an empty stomach = wind etc? Yes quite likely.  Tis better with some food for most folks.

Hello,

It is something that you should mention to your doctor, especially if it is accompanied by a heartburn type feeling, and possibly hiccups.

Thanks Matt and Ray !

No heartburn and happens day or night, food or not. Guess it's no big deal, I'll chalk it up to going psycho  ::)
When I read about that lactic acidosis stuff it freaked me out. Guessing here, but I think that comes on pretty fast, not gradual and can be seen developing with bloodwork.

People here are so smart !!   :)

hello

excess gas, is not a symptom of lactic acidosis. lactic acid levels can be measured, yes, but there isn't an automatic link between high levels, & the subsequent development of acidosis. talk to your dr/pharmacist if you are having concerns.

It is most probably the viread, as matt says. Try something like simeticone/dimeticone (brand names deflatine, asilone) and avoiding things like fizzy drinks etc…

hey Yowsaa,

I'm on Kaletra and Truvada. I've found that I burp and pass wind all the time.
I've been exercising a fair bit lately (trying to get rid of the winter belly that has jumped on board for a free ride), running, swimming and cycling. I burp uncontrollably during the exercise, but it seems to get it out all in the one session, so to speak. Also, seems to have helped with the gas, which is great, as it is putrid, and the loose stools.

Thanks Kate & Steve.

Doesn't bother me so I'll just mention it to the doc. No big deal than, just weird that it started a few months back.

HaHa Steve. Only gas for me is out of the North Pole  ;) Sounds like you better stay away from open flames when exercising  :D
