Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

I have looked all over the internet and I have found misleading answers.  I have heard that PCR is very effective after 72 hours and a lot of people say it is a waste of time.  A lot of the information I see is from 2005 and before.  I was wondering what the modern day 2008 evaluation of this test is?  I am looking to calm my nerves and I took the test 11 days post exposure and it found no HIV DNA in my body.  I know I will retest at 3 months but I did want to ease my anxiety.  Please let me know what you guys think?

The PCR DNA test is not a diagnostic test. A PCR RNA test is not a stand alone test and must be followed up with an antibody test. Both give high rates of false positives.

That being said if it tells you a negative is that pretty accurate after 11 days, and by the way you avatare is freaky!

The only conclusive negative result is at 3 months post exposure.
