Need your help

Hello ladies and gentleman. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate on this forum. I have never indulged in penetrative sex, six weeks ago I had some oral activity with a lady whose status I don't know. I fingered her for a couple of minutes (unprotected), sucked her breasts which produced salty secretions into my mouth (the tongue in particular). She then sat on me, held my penis and attempted to insert in her vagina. I felt some wetness on my penis and broke up the whole act as I am not yet in a state of readiness to indulge in penetrative sex. When all this happened I wasn't bothered as I thought there is no risk for hiv transmission (assuming she was positive). I started to have concern when 10 days after the incident I noticed a pus filled sore on my scrotum, started having tingling sensations on my fingers and feet and flu like symptoms. When I searched on the internet everything pointed to seroconversion. I therefore took to your forum to seek some help. I have been in a state of panic and worry since then. Your sound advice will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

You have not had a risk for hiv infection. You did not have penetrative anal or vaginal intercourse. Nothing you did put you at risk for hiv infection.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV OVER THIS SPECIFIC NO RISK SITUATION, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks a lot Ann. Makes me feel a lot better coming directly from you. I guess the chain of symptoms often overshadows our simple logic. I believe its been anxiety and stress of "what if". After all that I described in the previous post i.e. after having my penis touch her vagina she gave me a blowjob which I know will be of no risk (just thought I have to mention every bit). I really do appreciate your excellent service. My concern might have sounded like nothing but it has been eating me up for 6 weeks now. I have lost weight, developed a white tongue, loss of appetite, loss of focus and night sweats. I have been keeping everything to myself. Am glad I've shared it with you. This has been a life lesson and I will pass it to others, am sure it will help them.

A pus-filled sore on your scrotum could be a syphilis chancre. Please know that other STDs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV, and herpes CAN be passed through the activity you described, even though HIV cannot.

The testing window for syphilis is three months past exposure, though if you went to a doctor with a chancre s/he would likely treat you right away. It's rather easily cured if caught early, and as you are aware, fatal if not caught at all.
