Epzicom and Insomnia
« on: January 08, 2007, 07:54:11 pm »
Today marks the end of my 6th week on Epzicom. I guess I've made it through without a hypersensitivity reaction. Phew. But I am having big problems with insomnia. I haven't seen much talk about this side effect on these boards, but I'm beginning to worry that I'm not going to be able to stay on this combination (Epzicom + Viramune). I'm taking my meds in the morning (between 6 and 7 am). My questions are (1) is insomnia a common side effect of Epizicom? and (2) can I expect this to go away over time? I see my doc at the end of January, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make it that long with only 2-4 hours of restless sleep a night.
Tested POZ 6/95, CD4=123
Crix + Combivir (95-00)
Viramune + Combivir (00-06)
Viramune + Epzicom (11/06 - present)
CD4=600+ (since 96)
Viral Load=undetectable (since 96)

Hello Stpeteguy,

 I can only speak for myself. I am on Viramune, Epzicom, and Viread, and fortunately have no problems with insommnia. I work a screwed up schedule anyway. I work 11:00pm to 7:00 am. I usually go to bed around 11:00 am and sleep until about 6:00. This has been my schedule since starting meds,( and actually 7 years prior) and nothing has changed. You will need to talk to your doctor, to see if perhaps some additional medication my be needed.

I wish I could offer you some more advice, but as I said I am not having this problem right now.

Take care-----Ray

Insomnia sucks bigtime. Sorry for you. Can you take an OTC sleep-aid until you see your doctor? Or call him/her and and get a temporary prescription for a sleep medicine such as Ambien? It's tough enough having to deal with HIV and new meds while at the same time feeling exhausted because of no sleep.

Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.
