Title: Worried...
Post by: pink_princess on January 02, 2014, 11:32:41 am
A few nights ago I was doing coke and I shared a rolled up bank note with a gay male who may have HIV. I am really worried now - is it possible to get HIV this way?

I don't remember there being blood but I was pretty drunk and may not have been looking.  Also when I blew my nose later I noticed bits of blood in the tissue.

How long does HIV live outside the body? Would it still be infectious on a note/straw if it was passed to me from the guy?

Do you need a noticeable amount to be infected?

Many thanks

You did not not have a risk for HIV from sharing a note with another person no matter their HIV status . It can be a risk for Hepatitis but no one has ever been infected with HIV in that manner .

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

Many thanks for your quick reply.

Could you please elaborate on how it is not a risk for HIV? What if there was blood on the note and I didn't notice? I'm worried as my nose may have had cuts in it as it bled when I blew it.

Sorry for all the questions and many thanks in advance!

This is not the first time you were told that you never had a risk from snorting.

HIV is far to fragile to be transmitted that way ... and then there is the fact that there has been NO ONE infected with HIV that way .
