CD4 Dropped a week before I leave the Country... Med Scare

So as I stated, I'm leaving the country on the 27th. I went in to have my blood work checked again, and my CD4 went from 1066 to 875. I'm not supper worried, but I am scared to start meds a day or two before I leave the country for 3 months. What if I have a negative reaction to the medicine? Or how can/will I monitor if it works?

Any suggestions? If the doctor says "start" should I wait until I get back in the states?

Your CD4 change is within norm - you can see from my numbers below that I had a larger fluctuation than yours.  There are a number of factors that can influence your CD4 numbers including the time of day they were taken, whether you had a recent cold, etc.

With regard to taking your meds a few days prior to your trip - keep in mind that the majority of people do not have side effects.  That said, it wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor ahead of time and ask them what to do if you do get side effects.  In terms of knowing if they are working -- they will work, and even if you were here you wouldn't be tested for another three months.

Well 3 months is nothing with your numbers.
You don't "need" treatment. And no I wouldn't start treatment (unless an emergency) before a time away from home and my routine.

I will echo what others have said. A 191 drop is nothing to worry about. CD counts can vary greatly, even between a morning and afternoon blood draw. No worries.

Numbers consistent since 12/2010 - VL has remained undetectable and CD4 is anywhere from 275-325

So what about VL's? I went from 786 to 15556. Anything to worry about? I think if stress can contribute, thats probably what its about. LOL

Your viral load might change from one test to the next, sometimes a lot. These are natural fluctuations. Your doctor will likely tell you to expect them and to try not to worry too much when they happen. More important are consistent trends, either increases or decreases, in your viral load over several tests.

Battling AIDS/HIV is a long war. There will be blips. If a repeat test shows the same or higher result, then it is real. You need to make sure that there aren't other factors involved (ie, lab error and not your sample, adherence problems, other ongoing infections or medical problems).

Your doc will monitor this and you will know more as treatment progresses. In a nutshell, try not to freak and remember trends are more important than instances of ups/downs.
