Jody you are the second one to come up with the name Rockette today.. :D

After going through a few names with my Grandaughter..names like "Fluffy, squirrel, Daisy and Nana"..we finally agreed on the name Hollie..and she was happy with that one...thank God.. ;)

So we now have 3 girls and 5 boys.

How adorable! Hollie's legs look like they're still a bit wobbly. And it looks like the adults have gotten their summer haircuts.

Good luck to all!

To add to my previous post:

Jan, you & DH did a great job shearing those girls! I know they are known to be quite the nervous nellies and normally not well-behaved for the shearing experience--in fact, Alpacas are often tied down for the duration of shearing just cuz they are so tempermental with their spitting fits! I have heard their aim is amazingly accurate.

Hi Mike

I wish we could take credit for the shearing but we have a friend who does this for a living and helps us out every year, as you said they hate being sheared and protest very loudly about it, but we have never had them spit at us, they only ones we shear are the sheep and our cashmere goat..but I'm always willing to learn how to do the alpacas..maybe one day I'll have a go..but to be honest I don't think I have the strength to handle them..they a slightly bigger than the sheep.. :D

Hugs

Jan

Just curious, do you raise the animals for a profit or just because they are so cute?  I ask because I was under the impression it took A LOT of wool from Alpacas to make anything.  Maybe I am just confused?

Can you tell my visit to the Alpaca farm has made me a lover of the little buggers?  I think it is their eyes.

Pete, take a good look at Blackjack in the "for mini" thread.  He's a real "looker" ;D.

Jan, I was wondering the same thing about your "farm".  I was also wondering if you spin your own wool into yarn and if you sell it.  I'd love to have some angora and cashmere if you do.  Mini's PT raises angora rabbits and sheep.  She spins her own yarn and has given us some.  I love it!

Hi Pete/Mum

We are just a hobby farm so we don't make money from our animals, we give the alpaca fleece to the local spinners because we don't have enough to sell anyway..but we always get something from them, last year they made a scarf for me and a sweater for hubby from blackjacks fleece and this year we are both getting sweaters.

Pete...They are beautiful animals to watch and look after..we have them all eating out of our hands now, it took time for them to trust us but we got there in the end, and always come when they are called.

Mum..I have a spinning wheel but it's for decoration only.. :D..unfortunately we can't just send fleece through the mail we would have to have it checked out have it approved for export and get a special license..and it costs a lot  money to do this...maybe I can sweet talk one of the ladies into knitting a scarf for Mini..I will certainly ask.

Hugs

Too sweet, Jan. Congratulations.

I bought an alpaca jumper when I was in Peru. It was the softest wool I've ever worn.
