Hello everybody, I've had a piercing on the ear for more than an year. About two months ago I went with some friends to buy earrings because I wanted a new one for my ear. We went to a place were you can buy earrings at a very good price, so I tried one and when I was putting it in my ear hole (maybe i did it wrong) and felt a small pain, as I tried another earring I saw blood coming out of my ear hole, I got a bit scared about an infection, but since my ear hole didnt got infected or felt pain in anyway that same day of the incident. so days passed and I've started to wonder if by my insident it is possible to be infected with HIV, and searched the web for info. on the web they never mention HIV being transmited by earrings, but is it possible? in some web pages they mention transmition by shaving machines and knives so there comes my doubt. So is there a risk since in the last days I have had some symptoms? I'm really scared should i get tested? Please help!

HIV is not transmitted on environmental surfaces and that includes ear rings. The most likely explanation is that putting the ring or stud through your ear has caused original hole to bleed again.
HIV is transmitted via unprotected anal and vaginal sex, sharing contaminated injecting equipment such as needles and syringes and in some cases from HIV positive mother to her unborn baby. Please note that "contaminated injecting equipment" does not include ear rings and ear studs.
You were not at risk of contracting HIV from this experience and you do not need to be tested. Please read our Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and follow the links to our lessons on HIV transmission.

Thank you MTD, and for example if the ear ring had dry blood would there be any risk at all? and what isn't an earring a type of needle? and why is there a risk when you are having a piercing made and not a risk by changing the earring. I'm really confused...Can somebody apply something more about the incident I had?

There has never been anyone contract HIV by peircings or tattooes.

There's no hiv risk when getting your ears - or any part of your body - pierced. There is, however, a risk of hep C. If you're concerned about hep C, see a doctor. We only deal with hiv here and you did NOT have a risk for hiv.

hello again, I'm a bit concerned because I have big rashes, and allergies....IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT IF THE EARING HAD SOME BLOOD in my incident I MAY BE INFECTED BY HIV? thank you! should I get tested just in case?? or no real risk at all?

We've explained this to you already. You were not at risk of HIV infection. If you feel ill you should see your doctor.
There is no need for you to be tested for HIV.
