Olive leaf extract and HIV.
« on: June 26, 2007, 02:54:56 am »
Has anyone heard about Olive Leaf Extract.

I have seen some advertising that supports it's use in HIV, but this usually comes from manufacturers or retailers.  I can't find any decent research.

Can anybody help?

Any personal experiences?

I have some experience with olive leaf extract and I know two things about it:

1. It tastes absolutely vile;

2. It's utterly useless in dealing with HIV.

Yup. I got an unsolicited free bottle of the ghastly stuff in the mail a couple of years ago from some outfit in Queensland.

It's all complete bollocks.

Ah, the joys of the virtually unregulated supplement industry!  The medical claim should still be brought to the attention of the Federal Trade Commission, the folks who rained down on chief snake oil salesman Gary Kevin Trudeau.

Gary Trudeau or Kevin Trudeau?
Gary Trudeau I know created the comic strip Doonesbury.  Kevin Trudeau is notorious as the king of Quackery.

I'm not sure the FTC has a great deal of direct impact here in Australia, David. ;)

Ah, another bit of flotsam to add to the quackery bible.

Right next to using Tea Tree Oil to help quit smoking.

LOL. Are you expected to shoot it up or is it enough to just dip the ciggies into the oil before lighting them up to make them a fire ball?

Yet, a tink drop of tea tree oil can keep down jock itch, though I'm told it tastes quite vile

Tastes vile? Which? The oil or the itch?  :-X ;D :D ;)

A herbal type friend has given me a bottle of this brew (Olive leaf extract) and is hassling me to try it, in a friendly way.  I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo not going to take it.

It won't do ya any harm but it tastes absolutely fucking dreadful. Especially if it's that one they flavour with manky peppermint.
