Hi everyone,

Planning to start meds and not sure what is the best combo for me, been reading about Truvada + Isentress, seems side effects are uncommon which really appeals to me. Just wondered if anyone on here is on them and if so how have they found them? Any informion, good and bad, would be appreciated.

Hi Mancguy- I have been on this combo for only 7 weeks now after a very short time on Atripla. I am already undetectable,  my cd4 increased by 50 (340-390) and my platelets  went up my 6000.

The only unwanted effected I experienced was a slight rocking sensation when I would first go to bed. It resolved in about 3 days.

Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention that I can no longer eat Mexican food because of the mighty Truvada Wind.
Peace,
Billy

I have been positive since mid 2004.  Viral load was always low (200-2000) and CD4>500.  It was recommended to me to start on Truvada and Isentress in June of 2009.  I started then and have had no side effects to mention.  CD 4 is 710 (27%) and and viral load has been undetectable since the beginning (was 8000 before I started).  Hope this helps.

Not sure how you obtain your meds but I have found the mail order (with what ever insurance you have) is MUCH cheaper and comes right to your mailbox!

Good luck

Thank you guys, this pretty much confirms what I have already read about this combo, it will be top of my list when i meet with my consultant in two weeks time. I live in the UK so treatment is free, I just hope this combo is available here.

Mancguy,

what are you numbers? I'd also like to start this treatment but I'm not sure if the docs will allow it yet.

Also started on Truvada and Isentress since April 28, 2010. I tested positive in 2003, my numbers are listed here on my profile. No side effects that I've noticed so far. After a month I go for blood work to see how it's working.

Good luck Mancguy.

I've been on Isentress and Truvada for two years, and by far it's been the easiest combo I've ever taken (been HIV+ for ~20 years, on meds for 17).  My viral load is undetectable, cd4 count is 1380 with a 45%.

Thank you dist. How strict do you have to be with timings, do you have to stick strictly with the same time every day or is there a degree of flexibility? Also, have you noticed any interaction with other things such as alcohol (not that I drink heavily!).

I take Truvada (1) and Isentress (1) in the morning (8.00 a.m., taken after breakfast but i'ts not a prescription!) and Isentress (1) in the evening (8.00 p.m., before or after dinner). The doc told me that there is some flexibilty, -1.5/+1.5 h., but I'm usually very punctual. No significant interactions, but I would never suggest to take any medicine with things such as alcohol!
Recently, a very small pilot study have shown that a daily dose of 800 mg of Isentress may be safe and effective. However, the large confirmatory study is still ongoing, and everyone should wait for those results before taking Isentress once a day. We will see...

Here is a link: http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/2009icr/icaac/docs/092209_b.html
Merck is still studying Isentress once a day, but until we have the results of these new trials, I wouldn't recommend doing this.

Truvada can cause gas and Mexican food always caused a problem with me anyway.

thank you dist, I had already read it. I have also read that alcohol does not interfer with meds, but that alcohol may affect adherence. it all seems to relate to the quantity of alcohol drunk.
