Kissing
« on: October 15, 2012, 02:14:53 pm »
Recently had a french kiss with a female partner for around 5 seconds before she told me that she was HIV positive.

From the research i gathered online, i realised that kissing, wet kiss or whatever, would not result in infection at all, and are known to be no risk.

however, some sites have said that, kissing with ulcers on both partners would cause a low risk due to blood transmission. on that day, i wasnt sure if i had any ulcers, but i definitely do not have bleeding occuring in my mouth.

i called up my local testing centre and they told me that it was a low risk, but however said that testing is not required of me. my question is, if testing is not required, why do they claim that kissing with open wounds (ulcers) are of low risk instead of no risk?

is it a theoretical risk that would not occur in real life due to the presence of saliva and the minute amount of blood from the ulcer?

i know that i am paranoid, and i've searched through the forum for some cases that are similar to mine. due to the time lapse however, i wanted to post a new thread in case there are any new developments.

thanks in advance for all of your help and sorry for the poor english, english is not my main language  :)

No matter what details you throw into the situation, kissing is absolutely not a risk for HIV transmission. Read again: NO RISK.

There is no need for testing nor for further concern.

The ONLY confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. As long as you consistently use condoms for those activities you will be well protected. Yes, it really is that simple.

Hi thanks for taking your free time to reply me. I really appreciate it.

This was the reply given by my local testing centre. "There is no risk of getting STI and HIV through kissing, deep wet kissing or French kissing, unless there are bleeding lips, gums or ulcers in both parties at the same time, and even this is considered a low risk."

Just needed to clarify,  is the risk said by my testing centre theoretical only,  which would not happen in real life due to the fact that so much blood cannot be bleeding out of the mouth at the time of the kiss?

With that said,  thanks for reassuring me. I know that I am being overly paranoid.

Thing is, it's impossible to predict an event that has never been quantified.

No one has ever been documented as having gotten HIV from a kiss of any sort. Given the breadth and scope of HIV research, it would certainly be a scientifically unique experience if you were infected through this route. The upside of course would be that your healthcare would likely be aggressive and free of cost to you, since you would be a scientific curiosity of the first order.

In short, kiss anyone you want. You won't get HIV.

Well, you could always buy a subscription, even if you don't use it :)

Most of us are volunteers here, but we do always worry about the future of these forums. The more I search the web, the more I am convinced that we really are the best at what we do.

I am glad we could be of service.
