Hi,
Last month I had unprotected fellatio with an African prostitute. Two days later I got cold and warm as if I were to be taken with the fever. But no, it stopped the next day. However three days later I got a bit of fever for about 24hours (37,4 Celsius max.). I also had lost my appetite, felt inclined to vomit and got a sty on my eyelid. Anxious as I was, I scoured the net in search for symptoms of hiv infection and these were listed. So a lot of panic until I found sites that stated that fellatio is by no means a way of transmitting hiv. A big relief.
Nevertheless I still feel a bit worried because I know that viruses mutate or strains get more resistent. This might scare people i.e. what are the chances that hiv mutates and finds a way of infecting people through fellatio ?

The virus doesn't mutate in regard to how it is transmitted.
Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with hiv.

Here's what else you need to know about hiv...
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.
Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER A BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I posted two years ago on this site explaining that I received an unprotected blowjob from an African prostitute. I was reassured that I ran no risk whatsoever contracting HIV. NO WAY, they said.Even with gallons of blood I read in some answers. But now I ascertain that the risk is 1 on 20000. Why that sudden change?
My symptoms at the time were a mild fever (max 37,4 Celsius) ten days after exposure and red itchy spots on the body (very much looking like measles) a month later.
Should I worry ?

I've merged your threads.
Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you aren't going to be the first. If you cannot bring yourself to believe us, go test and collect your negative result. As long as you haven't been having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse you've neglected to tell us about, a negative result is a foregone conclusion. A blowjob is NOT a risk.

That's what I am going to do in order to get peace of mind. I don't understand why some sites tell that the risk is minimal and others say the risk is ZERO. Even the official Belgian site on HIV (Sensoa,working close with the Tropical institution in Antwerp, one of the leading instances in the world on aids) are not very clear. For one group, the heterosexuals there is a minimal risk. And for the gay, there is NO risk for contracting HIV in receiving fellatio. So you must understand my uneasiness.
When I get the result of the test I will let you know.

I don't understand it either. We've known for years now that getting a blowjob is not a risk. Some sites are somewhat vague, as they just say "oral" without differentiating between getting and giving. While if a person who has very poor oral health might be at a very slight risk when giving a blowjob, getting a blowjob is in no way a risk. Never has been, never will be. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.
And not only that, but there have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Blood taken. Result tomorrow. Doctor said contracting hiv trough blowjobs is possible. But thinks I am going to test negativ. Let's hope he is right.

Your doctor is totally CORRECT that you will test negative over this, but he is INCORRECT when he says it's possible to become infected from getting a blowjob.
