Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

digital(fingering) exposure question...

A few weeks back I had an encounter with a female that led to us kissing and me fingering her, no oral or vaginal sex was done.  After fingering her I noticed that I had some blood on my finger and around my finger nails, she said it was not from her period but probably from friction (not being wet enough) and said this had happened to her in the past once before.  I went and washed my hands just with soap and water and did not notice any cuts or any openings on my hand.  I am wondering am I at risk for HIV or other STDs due to her blood coming into contact and staying on my finger and under my fingernails for about 15 minutes?  Thank you for your help, I have learned a lot from just browsing this site to calm my fears.  I only asked this question as I did not see something like it from searching.

Fingering is not a risk of transmitting HIV. You had no risk.

HIV is a fragile virus and not easily transmitted. The only confirmed sexual means of HIV transmission are through unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.

You are worrying needlessly. As Rod has said, fingering is absolutely not a risk for transmission. Period.

Thank you for the help, you are right about the worrying.  I guess I just saw the blood and thought this was a different scenario than your normal fingering incident.  Thanks again.

You're welcome. It's not uncommon for someone to get nervous at the sight of blood but in this case the visual has nothing to with any real risk. Whew!
