Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

nightclub incident

 Last night, I was in a night club in Orlando Florida, it was extremely insanely packed with people. i was having a good time and dancing with friends. However halfway through the night I noticed that my arm had a small cut/scrape on it...and it is small but prominent. I went to the bathroom to wash up my wound. Now i am worried that maybe someone with with ill intent with an object might have cut me on purpose and what are the chances that the object had HIV blood on it? I am just a little worried and I am wondering should I get tested?  I know that this seems like a wild card but something grazed my arm on my upper elbow and cut me and I have been worried sick since then. Please help me people...

You can relax you never had a risk.  HIV is not transmitted in the way you describe.  HIV is a very fragile virus that is damaged immediately when it leaves the host.  Even if there was blood on whatever you think cut you, it would not be infectious.

The risk factors for HIV are ...

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth.
Very specific health care situations.

Use condoms for vaginal and anal sex consistently and correctly and you will avoid HIV infection, it is that simple.
