Hi Everyone:

1 year and 3 days ago Damn Fool (DF), my partner, lost his job.  It's been one hell of a roller coaster ride this past year let me just tell you.

The stress and tension have been almost unbearable.  We were fortunate that he was given 28 weeks of severance (ended in March), and is collecting unemployment (Thank god for the extensions that the conservatives fought so hard--bastards!  >:().  Though it's not near enough at least it's been something.

The call came at 1:30 p.m.

He's been offered a job.  Not just any job but one he's truly excited about.  The benefits are pretty good, the salary is $20,000. less then he was making, but at least it's a job!

He actually cried after hanging up with the HR person.

He's been through hell.  A person can only take so many rejections before it becomes a real mind fuck.

Today is a VERY happy day.

RAB

Rab,

This is Great news !!!  It is still , very much, a tough economy out there.  Glad to hear that things are on the up and up, and that your partner got a job. I am really glad that things worked out  !!

We're down to the lowest amount of employees, that we've had in 13 years.  I just wish that things would improve a whole lot faster. There is just not much job security, or company loyalty out there, anymore. The execs will do anything to save their salary. They have already canceled the twice a year pay-out for overtime.  A lot of people needed this cash out money because of the upcoming holidays, and the fact that pay raises have been frozen, makes things difficult.

My last pay raise was in February of 08, and it looks as though I won't be getting one on 2/11.  :-\

Every time  I go into work, I wonder , "Who's next"

That is great news! Especially in this (hopefully recovering) economy. I hope it is upwards and onwards for the both of you.

RAB --

so happy to hear of your and hubby's great news!  What a tremendous relief it must be for your both.

My hubby has been looking for full time work for just about 2 years (at least he's been lucky enough to find 2 part-time jobs, and I can cover him medically), so I know how you feel.

I agree with others -- go celebrate -- do something crazy!!

Hugs,

That is so awesome, I am happy for you both.  My best friend has a MBA, and is having the hardest time finding a job.  At this point she is starting to sell things to make her bills, it is horrible. I to have not had a raise since September of 2007.  You have to do what you have to do, but man this is kicking my butt.  I am grateful that I have a job, make that two jobs and I am able to make my bills, but the current cost of meds continually rise, makes it very difficult to make ends meet sometimes.  Again, congratulations.   D

I am so happy and relieved for Rab and DF as I have thought about them so often over the past year.  Rab is such a sweet and truly caring man and to say he can have things weigh on him a bit is an understatement.  Thanks for sharing the wonderful news Rab and I'm glad as well that DF found a position he seems to be so excited to undertake.  Do go out and celebrate big time, your favorite restaurant, a show or movie, whatever! You guys deserve it!!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words.  Neither of us ever imagined he'd be unemployed for so long, but now that it's come to a good ending, we're thrilled.

We're going out tonight for a celebration supper and maybe a couple of cocktails.  ;)

BTW, the crazy ass fool negotiated a slightly higher starting salary (I felt he should just take what they offered and be done with it.).  So this really is a very good thing.

I just need to correct myself.  It was the VACATION time that employees could cash out on, not overtime.  Employees could cash out 80 hours maximum per  year.

Glad to hear your partner negotiated a higher salary !!   :)

Well some not very good news this morning.  DF was let go from his new job.  No reason was given except that it "just wasn't working out".

This is just awful.

Oh RAB --

I am so sorry.  You'd think there would be a moratorium on these sorts of things around the holidays.

Hugs,
Mike

RAB,

I am so sorry to hear this, especially during the holidays and especially in this difficult economy.  I recall how stressful this situation was for both of you and I hope and pray that another door, a better door, will open for both of you very soon.  The best thing to do now is to keep hope alive.  Let us know how we can help you do that.

Thanks everyone for your kind and supportive words.

We just didn't see this coming and were pretty much in shock.

This morning the shock has worn off and we're in much better moods.

We'll be fine, we've survived many things in our 23 years, we'll get through this too.

Love you all

RAB

Dearest RAB, I'm so sorry to hear this bad news, I was so happy for you guys a while back when DF got this job.  I too also hope for something good to come knocking again.  With a wonderful guy like yourself by his side in life, it should always come up roses.

sad news  like this typically comes around during the 4th qtr of the year... decisions are being made on how to get to whatever fiscal goals have been set for the next year..   reducing salaries is an easy hit  ..usually a bad decision...  but an easy hit to make some goal on staffing expense.....   seen this so many times over the years  it still hurts   every time ...... the job never actually goes away  it just gets dumped onto whoever didnt get cut ....   then the "record"  shows huge "productivity gains"  (  more work done by fewer  people  at lower cost )

I am sure that you both will find a way to get through this...  an unfortunate consequence of the  "  short term" mindset of so many companies

Hey RAB, was just thinking about you both and memories of last summer and ran across this thread.

So sorry to hear the news. Pass on my thoughts to you know who.

There is something good around the corner. I can feel it in my waters.

Amen honey!   You get knocked on your butt, you just get up and keep going.   I sure am sorry this happened, esp. so close to the holidays.....

I still say everything happens for "a reason".   What that reason is, we may never know or understand....Hopefully, something even better will come along for him soon.  As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers....
