Title: new baby
Post by: whoknew on May 14, 2011, 03:50:59 am
Hi to all.

for all of you who have followed my story from the beginning of my pregnancy and for all those who are interested I would like to announce the safe arrival of my gorgeous little boy !!!!

I had him last week by cesarian due to a complicated previous birth ( not due to hiv status) and the whole birth process was calm and relaxed the surgical staff made me feel at east and the HIV really wasnt a problem for any of them. They treated me like any other new mum , encouraging skin to skin contact after the birth ( without the breast feeding of course) and photographed the whole process for me.

The midwifes on the ward were lovely and made me feel confortable and not judged at all... for anyone who remembers the problems I had with a comunity midwife at the beginning of my pregnancy will know that this has not allways been the case and they were pre warned on how I wished to be treated :)

Anyone that was unsure of current guidelines or had any questions asked politely if they could ask me things so that they knew for future reference and the midwifes involved in my care had obviously been briefed on the newe guidelines.

My little lad is completly gorgeous !! I am sooooo in awe of the little chap he weighed just over 6lb and is so sweet. He tolerates the AZT medication well but it gives him wind.

We were expecting his first PCR hiv test back this week but aparently the blood was put in the wrong bottle so we had to repeat that yesterday which was a bit traumatising considering im still not all that mobile after the cesarian but to be honest its a fore gone conclusion that he will be negative so im not all that fussed :) :) happy hapy new mummy here !

ooh for anyone who is about to have a baby and wondering about the medication I will offer the following tips.

Think of it not as HIV medication , think of it as something else.... vitamins anything so you dont make yourself feel unnecesarily guilty, its hard the first week or so.

measure out the amount you are supposed to give with the little syringe thingy and then squirt it into the back of a bottle teat much easier to administer and the baby wont be able to dribble any out.

Give before a bottle not after that was if they spit up milk its the milk that will come out first :)

try and hold the baby upright when you give it :)

obviously each baby is different and im not trying to tell anyone what to do , just thought I would share what has worked for me incase its of any help to anyone else.... right off to feed my gorgeous boy again... hungry little lad he is !

Absolutely fantastic news! Congratulations of the first order! :)

I'm so happy to hear how well the delivery went and that you were treated with the courtesy and respect you're due. What a relief after everything you've gone through. You've put a smile on my fact today - thank you!

Enjoy him while he's little and stays in one place. Once he starts crawling or walking around, you'll be rushed off your feet! But you already know this, don't you. :D

What happy news. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Big hugs for you and your baby boy. :-*

    Congratulations on your baby.

I don't have any kids, but I have a friend that is pregnant and has HIV so I passed your tips along to her.

So he's not been down to the pub yet? :D

I'm so happy for you. You're lucky too - two built-in babysitters! You won't have to wait until he's asleep so you can take a long, hot, relaxing shower.

We want photos! :)

Hello Ladies.

still doing great, will  sort out a piccie soon :)

Just to let you know that we finally got back the first hiv test for the baby and of course its negative :) still nice to get it back tho. It has taken a while as the hospital put the babys blood in the wrong tube thing and therefor it didn't get tested the first time, so we had to re do it last week. another one in three weeks and then at three months but im not worried in the slightest :)

I am amazed that he is so perfect since I took Atripla throughout the pregnancy , details of his development will go to the pregnancy register to enable further statistical analasys of babies born to mums taking Sustiva !!  only a few more days of giving him meds which is good because he really doesn't like it.

The girls are still being fab with him, he is so much more alert now ( 3 weeks old !) Its funny to watch look around and try to suss the world out.

anyway better run got lots to do as always. xxxx
