Question for Newt

In reading through some of your older posts, I often see you make a reference to meds being "nukes" and "non-nukes". 

I tried googling its definition but it seems to be colloquial jargon used by members here. 

What exactly do you mean by this?  Couldn't figure it out contextually

This is covered in our extensive Lessons section, specifically in the HIV Life-cycle Lesson.

In a nutshell, nukes are a shorthand way of saying Nucleoside/Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NRTIs) and non-nukes are shorthand for Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NNRTIs). Read the lessons so you can learn what they are and what they do.

Have you looked through the lessons?  Very good place for some of the more basic information if you haven't read through them.

For the record, when you said "nuke" I thought there was some kind of "explosive" or damaging quality to them to the referenced drug  I didn't know you were abbreviating the word "nucleotide".

And that's why I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I'm very aware of the difference between an NNRTI and NRTI.

There is no such thing as a dumb question about HIV treatment. I prefer saying nukes and non-nukes because it's easy to miss (include) an extra N in NNRTI (NRTI). << but doubtless am not consistent.

Hopefully your CD4 count will be above 200 soon and you can kick the Bactrim.

I have the same problem with my glasses. I have to take them off to read so I'm forever misplacing them. It's difficult to find things when your vision is all skew-wiff.
