POZ Before and after 21 years...

Yesterday, as it was my day off at work and was kinda chilly outside, I decided to stay home and do some cleaning. While proceeding, I came to that old shoe box containing all my family pictures. Could not resist to open it and take a look at those old  family scenes. But  was I surprised to pick and old photograph of me that I had  forgotten. I looked at the verso and it was written : August 1986.

Gosh that was  exactly one year before I turned  poz !    I looked at it carefully and finally decided to compare it with one taken a few weeks ago, just to see what exactly as changed in my face after 21 years of hiv.  So here  they are : 

1 yr before

21 yrs after


Well, I don't know if some will agree, but I think I look better now than 22 yrs ago.

In the 80s we were such fashion victims.  I went on a search for photos from 20-plus years ago recently, and I knew what a stark physical contrast there would be between me in my early 20s and me today.  My partner and my more recent friends were astonished by the difference.  Though I may have been Out and Proud as a Gay man then, I was uncomfortable in my own body--I weighed 30 pounds less than I do know, but with a waist four inches larger.  In the few photos which I allowed in that era, I am trying to hide in my clothes or in the background, while today I'll get shirtless or naked at the drop of a hat.

When I look at photos of myself from "pre-AIDS" days, it is like looking at a different person....so I'd say you are very fortunate.

Well, I don't know what I should  add to my  post. I know that many of you are suffering body changes and I sincerely sympathize. As Alan said : I'm fortunate and I realize it.  My mirror is reflecting an image of a young looking man but inside the reality is quite differant. Some days I feel like I was 80 years old     , trying not to show constent fatigue, joint pains, legs stiffness and so much more that became part of my life but should not happen at my age. (..that I won't reveal  )
